It’s been three days since the Delta Force unveiled their “Black Hawk Down” campaign. This new feature in the free-to-play tactical shooter by Team Jade is based on Ridley Scott’s famous film of the same name.
Although the movie “Black Hawk Down” received two Academy Awards and is now widely regarded as one of the greatest war films, the Delta Force campaign garnered predominantly unfavorable reviews on Steam. Out of the 3,300 Steam reviews available at this moment, only approximately 1,175 (or about 35%) were positive.
A significant part of the initial unfavorable response is widely acknowledged because while Delta Force operates seamlessly on average systems, its campaign is notoriously unstable.
Many gamers encounter game crashes even before they reach the first stage, which is supposed to load initially. The ones who manage to progress often face lags, random hang-ups, and various performance problems that are below the usual high standards of smooth optimization Delta Force games are known for.
As a gamer myself, I’ve noticed that when it comes to Delta Force, opinions within our gaming community vary greatly. Performance concerns aside, we’re far from unified in our thoughts about this game.
Is it reasonable to consider that Team Jade faced an extremely challenging campaign? Or is the skill level of modern First-Person Shooter players diminishing?
Can we find any subtlety in the gritty, bloody streets of Mogadishu?
The Black Hawk Down Difficulty Question
Prior to its release, Ethan Krieger from DualShocker had a chance to test the game and converse with the developers.
A notable aspect is that the campaign lacks adjustable difficulty levels; fights are fixed, meaning you either improve your skills or face defeat in the attempt.
According to feedback from Steam reviews and social media discussions, many individuals are finding themselves stuck at later stages.
As a gamer, I must say that the level design is tailored primarily for four-player cooperative gameplay. Even though there are some survivability perks when playing alone, they simply don’t outweigh the enemy’s numerical advantage.
In a different phrase, this game’s playstyle is more focused on military simulation (milsim), which is quite distinct from the less realistic multiplayer style found in Delta Force.
In simpler terms, you’ll usually defeat opponents with just one or two shots, but beware, they can retaliate effectively. When in combat, your teammates can rescue you, but healing supplies run out rapidly under intense gunfire.
Like the Delta and Ranger soldiers in 1993, your team only has the ammo it brought into missions.
As a team player in the gaming world, I’ve found that having a ‘support’ character can offer me additional turns to strategize and aid my comrades. However, this tactical edge is only beneficial when the one playing the support role actively collaborates with the rest of us on the team.
Since there is no evidence that soldiers had to resort to using enemy weapons during the Battle of Mogadishu, it can’t be used as an excuse for lack of firearm control.
The missions aren’t excessively lengthy, yet Delta Force ventured into them without any checkpoints or the ability to respawn. In case they fall, they must begin anew.
Bad Reviews Are Not Bad News

Regardless of some dissatisfaction, a substantial number of players think that the campaign offers an ideal balance of challenge and authenticity.
What sets Delta Force apart from its rivals is this unique advantage they possess, and fans can only cross their fingers that Team Jade doesn’t crumble under criticism.
The special talent that Delta Force has is something their competitors don’t have, and everyone hopes that Team Jade won’t give in when faced with negative feedback.
Delta Force can be described as a captivating blend, albeit somewhat unpolished, of elements from Battlefield, Escape From Tarkov, and Six Days in Fallujah.
As a gamer, I’ve come to realize that it’s an impossible dream to find a game with a single difficulty setting or mechanics that would satisfy every type of player, be it the casual, competitive, or story-driven ones among us.
Most Delta Force players don’t often explore all game modes. However, those who do so frequently switch it up specifically to keep things interesting and varied.
Indeed, when only one out of three reviews praise a game, it may seem unfavorable at first glance. But let’s consider another perspective: A third of Call of Duty and Battlefield-style gamers who appreciate hardcore campaigns without compromises are satisfied with this game.
It’s astonishing that games like ARMA Reforger or Six Days in Fallujah might envy the number of casual gamers transitioning into intense, hardcore gameplay.
