Bethesda Has ‘Exciting Things Planned’ For Starfield This Year, But Remains Silent

It feels as though it’s been ages since Starfield was launched, yet it was barely two years back when Bethesda Game Studios’ space-themed RPG masterpiece made its debut. For some, the game didn’t leave a significant mark, while for others, it was a game to remember, brimming with unrealized possibilities.

I’m probably in the former camp there.

Lately, the team has taken to social platforms to thank fans globally for their patience, hinting at some thrilling developments for Starfield coming up this year. However, they’ve chosen to keep quiet about the details for now.

Next Starfield DLC, Anyone?

In September, approximately a year post Starfield’s launch, Bethesda introduced Shattered Space – the initial (and currently, only) significant expansion for the title. While not groundbreaking, it represented progression on a game that had seen little development in the preceding 1.5 years or so.

As a gamer, I was excited about the long-awaited game that had been in development for two decades. However, it quickly lost its momentum and failed to live up to my expectations early on, which was quite disappointing.

Examining several notable instances of how Starfield is being received globally reveals a somewhat unfavorable trend. On Twitch, the game boasted an impressive peak of 552,021 viewers upon its launch, however, at this moment in time, merely 40 individuals are tuned in to watch Starfield gameplay.

By contrast, Fallout 4 has 648 viewers, which isn’t much better, but that game is a decade old.

Since its launch, the number of players for Starfield on Steam has plummeted by an astounding 99%. On the other hand, the player count for Fallout 4, the post-apocalyptic RPG on PC, has surged over three times more than that of Starfield when last checked.

It’s common for a standalone video game to follow this pattern, and it’s understandable if Starfield doesn’t break away from that norm.

Bethesda had intended to roll out a significant expansion for Starfield annually, and considering the timing of when we learned about Shattered Space, it seemed likely that they were already working on the next one. However, it appears no new details have emerged since Shattered Space was launched six months ago.
