The first Subnautica game intentionally avoided violence and didn’t include guns, but players could still harm and kill underwater creatures. This feature carried over to Subnautica: Below Zero. However, the upcoming Subnautica 2 doesn’t allow players to kill any fish, and many are voicing their concerns to the game’s creators.

Hey everyone, so the dev team just put out a message addressing some recent stuff. Basically, they apologized if some of their comments made us feel like our feedback wasn’t being heard – which is good to know! They really emphasized that they are paying attention to what we’re saying, and they know the creatures aren’t perfectly balanced yet. They’re planning some changes in the future to tweak things like how useful the Survival Multitool is, how far creatures will chase us, how aggressive they are, and even how effective flares are. They want us to be able to play the game as intended, but they’re sticking to their guns on keeping combat focused around traditional weapons.
