Players taking on each chapter of Split Fiction will encounter new biomes, and unlock special abilities that make getting through certain obstacles feel less gruesome. In Chapter 3, Zoe and Mio unlock transformation abilities that turn the former into either a gorilla or a marine creature, while the latter can become a Woodland Spirit. These skills will come in handy during a challenging chapter.
While Chapter 3 contains beautiful scenery and breathtaking visuals, it comes with one of the most challenging missions in Split Fiction. Known as Cold Potato, this stressful side quest challenges players with using perfect teamwork to avoid running into problems that force them to restart from the beginning. In order to ensure players get through the mission in one go, following these steps will guarantee victory.
Arriving At The Destination Of The Big Game
Before players can think about taking on the game of life or death, Zoe and Mio will need to make it to the dance. The chapter takes them through a small maze of obstacles, which includes bridges, tight-rope walking logs, double-jumping large gaps, and gliding to the end point. It’s not particularly difficult. In fact, it’s the easiest part of this adventure, but players should still proceed with caution.
Once players have arrived at the finish line, a sphere will be present for both players to touch. In doing so, Zoe and Mio are transported inside the game, where the real fun begins. Cold Potato is a game that tests a player’s ability to practice patience and showcases their timing and precision. One wrong move, and it’s back to the start.
Game #1 – Bomb Throw
The first part of the #1 Game Show in the World will feel like a cakewalk, as it serves as the appetizer to this competition’s main course. Zoe and Mio take opposite ends on a one-tile platform, and are spread apart from one another. From here, players and their partners will need to throw and catch a bomb two times each, for a total score of four. The timing needs to be accurate on the catch, otherwise the bomb will be dropped.
In this game show, if you drop the bomb, it will explode, making you start over from the beginning. Since this is our initial mini-game, restarting won’t be too much of a hassle at first. However, as you progress further into the game, redoing earlier levels becomes increasingly tedious. The opening level teaches us one thing – patience. So, be patient and keep going as you advance in the game.
- Throw the bomb
- Catch the bomb
- Repeat three more times
Game #2 – Bomb Dash 1
The second game kicks things up a notch by introducing a time limit element. Now, Zoe and Mio are challenged with running down a straight line as the bomb is ticking away. The good news is, there is a way to reset the timer, and that’s by throwing the bomb at your partner. Catching it sets the timer back to zero, allowing the player enough time to reach the finish line.
The only thing left to do is open the lid of the container, and dump the bomb inside. Players will face elimination if the bomb is dropped or the timer goes off. Both players will also need to reach the container, as one is required to open the lid, while the other must dump the bomb inside of it. This is where the first level comes in handy, as Zoe and Mio will have mastered the art of throwing and catching a bomb.
- Run down the lane
- Throw the bomb once when the timer is getting close
- Make it to the container
- Dump the bomb into the container
Game #3 – Bomb Dash 2
1. Keep your attention fixed, as the initial level was merely a practice round! The upcoming stage demands that players integrate all the elements from the previous one while introducing an additional skill: jumping and throwing. A barrier will be erected between Zoe and Mio, making it challenging to reach them directly. Remember that tossing a bomb without leaping over the obstacle may result in the explosion occurring near you instead.
2. Make sure you pay close attention, as level one was just practice! In the next stage, players need to use all the skills from the previous level and learn a new one – jumping and throwing. There will be a barrier between Zoe and Mio, so you’ll have to jump over it to get to them. Be careful when throwing bombs, because if you don’t jump first, they might bounce off the wall and explode close to you.
Luckily, there are three tiles spread out that contain a green circle, which are used to catapult Zoe and Mio into the air. The height of the jump is just enough to send the bomb to the other side, but both players will need to jump at the correct time, and catch the throw. There are also three jump attempts planned here, so there should never be a case where the bomb is close to running out of time.
- Run down the lane
- Make it to the middle jump pad
- Throw the bomb while in the air
- Make it to the container
- Dump the bomb into the container
Game #4 – Bomb Dash 3
If the last game wasn’t hot enough for you, it’s time to turn up the heat. That’s because the third game involves tiles that send a blast of fire upwards at Zoe and Mio. Standing on one as it ignites will bring an end to the level, regardless of who’s holding the bomb. The new level also brings another element of platforming expertise, as players will need to turn corners and avoid throwing the bomb too early.
Plan ahead and look towards every turn and where the fire blast tiles are laid out. The bomb carrier should make the first throw before crossing over the fire blast tiles. Next, make a sharp turn around the obstacles and run past the barrier set up before attempting the second throw. This should give enough time for the carrier to bring the bomb to the container safely, and complete the level.
- Run down the lane
- Stop before the first fire pad
- Throw the bomb
- Run past both fire pads and turn the corner
- Throw the bomb again once past the barricade
- Make it to the container
- Dump the bomb into the container
Game #5 – A Friend Of Mine
a large machine equipped with a spiked roller at the front, which moves much quicker than them. However, throwing the bomb to your partner not only resets the timer but also directs the machine towards another target, helping to create some distance.
Thankfully, the level is rather short and requires very little strategy. Whether you’re a keyboard player or controller user, your hands won’t be so busy. Make a beeline for the container with a slight zigzag course, and throw the bomb when the machine gets too close. Realistically, it should only take two throws before both Zoe and Mio make it to the container, but be weary of how close that pesky machine is before making a throw.
- Run towards the container
- Avoid the machine at all cost
- Throw the bomb when it gets too close (maximum 2 throws needed)
- Make it to the container
- Dump the bomb into the container
Game #6 – Bomb Dash 4
Bringing back the challenge with the most difficult stage yet, players will be wishing they had three machines chasing them down. To make matters worse, the game show host appears to be losing their mind and glitching out, paired with a music soundtrack that becomes more intense. It’s clear that this game show isn’t what it was made out to be, and Zoe and Mio are in grave danger.
Moving quickly and making passes at the most opportune time will be ideal here. There are moving platforms that will need to be timed to perfection, but thankfully there are only two instances. Advance to the first major jump and stop before the fire wall before completing the first throw. Once the fire simmers down, use the launch pad to jump up and dash to the platform. A second throw is necessary here, and then use the second moving platform to make it to the container.
- Advance to the first platform using the moving tiles
- Complete the first throw before the fire walls
- Advance to the launch pad and glide once in the air
- Use the second moving tiles to advance to the second platform
- Make it to the container
- Dump the bomb into the container
At this point, there’s no question that this level is exceptionally challenging, given the bomb timer. Every second matters here, so each jump and toss is crucial.
Game #7 – Time To End It All!
All that separates you from glory and adding the Cold Potato achievement to the trophy shelf is the game show host and one last maze. Luckily, there are no fire walls here, but players will have to be vigilant with their timing, their throws, and most importantly, avoid being crushed. There is one platform with side panels that will close and crush the player if they stay on it for too long.
Completing this stage won’t be easy, but no achievement or trophy comes easy in Split Fiction. The first throw should come before jumping through the panel with crushing walls. Then, it’s a matter of timing three more throws during the run, the last of which should occur during the final jump. Landing on the game show host’s monitor, plant the bomb inside its head and watch the cutscene as it explodes, completing the game and earning the achievement.
- Run to the last tile before the jump
- Complete throw #1
- Jump through the crushing walls and again to the next platform
- Complete throw #2
- Use the elevating platform to make your way up
- Complete throw #3
- Use the launch pad to get to the top of the game show host
- Complete throw #4 while in midair
- Dump the bomb into the game show host
