BF6: VCR-2 Unlock Guide

The VCR-2 is a very powerful rifle in Battlefield 6. It was originally available in Season 2 through the battle pass, but now players can unlock it by completing a Season 2 challenge focused on using shoulder-mounted missile launchers. While the challenge isn’t difficult, unlocking the VCR-2 in BF6 does require some patience.

How to Unlock the VCR-2 in BF6

To unlock this weapon in BF6, you’ll need to complete these steps after acquiring the 9K38 Igla Launcher.

  1. Deal 3000 damage to vehicles with shoulder-launched missiles
  2. Destroy or assist in destroying 5 aircraft using the 9K38 Igla

The first goal is simple: choose your preferred rocket launcher while playing as the Engineer, and then destroy as many enemy ground vehicles as possible. You can complete this part just by playing the game normally. However, the second part of the challenge is more difficult.

Shooting down planes in BF6 is surprisingly difficult. Pilots can evade lock-on missiles like the 9K38 Igla by deploying flares or flying outside the radar’s reach. But the Igla has an advantage: it can quickly re-lock onto its target, even after being initially avoided.

How to Use the Igla

Just so you know, with the Igla missile launcher, you can still lock onto an aircraft even if your first missile doesn’t hit. This only works while the first missile is still flying. If you try to fire again right away and can’t, it means the first missile is still out there somewhere.

If that happens, look through the Igla’s sights and try to get a lock on an enemy aircraft or helicopter. Once you have a steady lock, your first missile will eventually reach its target.

For this challenge, I only played the Conquest mode on the Railway to Golmud map. This map features plenty of aircraft for both sides, giving you frequent opportunities to engage them. I’d position myself near our team’s anti-air tank and wait for it to fire. As soon as an enemy pilot deployed flares, I’d quickly launch an Igla missile. This strategy often led to a hit, and if the enemy aircraft was already damaged, it usually secured a kill, helping me complete the challenge.

As a player, I’ve found the most rewarding targets are definitely enemy planes and helicopters that are actually trying to take down my teammates. Focusing on those guys feels like the biggest help to the team and gets you the most satisfying takedowns!

It took me three full matches of repeatedly launching rockets at enemy pilots to finally unlock the VCR-2 in Battlefield 6. While I was completing the challenge, the game wasn’t tracking progress correctly – assists and destroying abandoned aircraft didn’t count towards completion. Hopefully, that’s been fixed, but be warned, it could still be really frustrating!

If you’re out of Igla missiles, move to a new location and continue firing. While this uses up your team’s resources, it helps control the airspace by either eliminating enemy pilots or discouraging them from approaching.
