Beyond the Rails is a challenging late-game activity in Neverness to Everness where players test their abilities and team strategies. You’ll complete stages, called Stops, within a time limit to earn rewards, most importantly Annuliths. These Annuliths are valuable for use in the game’s gacha system. While the mode itself is straightforward, achieving perfect scores on every stage can be difficult, particularly if you’re still learning the combat mechanics.
NTE: Beyond the Rails Anomaly Zone Location
You’ll find this special area, called the Anomaly Zone, in the north of the Miguel District. Look for the bright, turquoise icon on Whitetail Ridge Road. While players of any level can go there, it’s designed for the later stages of the game, so you might want to wait until you’ve made more progress before trying it out.
When you get to the Beyond the Rails location in NTE, you’ll discover the entrance to a train station. Inside, you’ll find Ghost Trains and passengers waiting to board. To begin the activity, head to the main platform and talk to Miss Levi, number 10320, who is standing near the train carriage.
I stumbled across a little side quest here – it’s an exam to get access to the Ghost Train in NTE. It’s kinda neat, but honestly, you don’t have to do it to ride the train anyway, which is good to know!
NTE: Ghost Train Gauntlet Stages
As a big fan of Beyond the Rails, I’ve discovered there are these things called Routes – basically, they’re sets of challenges or stages. If you manage to finish them, you get some cool rewards!
- The All-Day Routes (Fracture Circle) are permanent, and they serve as the introduction to the Ghost Train challenges in NTE.
- Special Routes (Prime Circle) are temporary. Once they refresh, all stages will get reset, and you’ll get a chance to reap more rewards from them.
It’s best to fully level up your characters before attempting the Ghost Train’s Stops. Also, raise your NTE Hunter Level to unlock better Ascension levels for them.
Each area you explore has a special bonus called a Resonance Effect that helps your team while you’re completing it. These bonuses are very important for succeeding in the challenging Beyond the Rails stages of NTE, because you need to be as efficient as possible when fighting enemies. Here are a few examples of Resonance Effects:
- Law of Stacking Blades: This Resonance Effect increases the Basic Attack DMG of your current character every time you hit an enemy with a Basic Attack. The effect stacks up to 10 times, and is reset when you swap characters.
- Flash of Insight: Increases the Cosmos and Anima DMG of your team by 30%.
Your primary objective is to eliminate all enemies. Completing a stage quickly during the Beyond the Rails challenge will earn you a perfect three-star rating and the highest possible rewards. Therefore, focus on building strong teams and efficient combat strategies.
Otherworldly Supplies
Otherworldly Supplies are items you can use during stages in Beyond the Rails. You can buy a limited amount of each supply per route using Shadowquills, and each supply can only be used once per stage.
Pay attention to when you use an Otherworldly Supply item, as each one can only be used once per stage. To reuse an item, you need to replay and complete the stage it was used on without using the item again. Once you’ve done that, you can either use the item on a different stage or recycle it to get back the Shadowquills you originally spent.
The effects of items you equip can be very different. Some just boost your attack power, while others create impressive results, like pulling enemies together with a black hole.
NTE: Beyond the Rails Tips
- You’ll want to bring the best NTE teams you have, but if you don’t have the right characters, try to at least have good Supports like Haniel, Sakiri, and Jiuyuan in your teams.
- Speaking of Sakiri and Jiuyuan, any character or effect that can group enemies up is excellent here. Clump all the monsters up, then nuke them using your other characters.
- Hotori freezes the timer when she uses her Ultimate. If you have her, try to use her time-stop ability as often as you can.
- Always check the Enemy Details screen before you hop into a challenge stage so you know what you’re going up against.
- Always build teams around the active Resonance Effect. The difference they’ll make is significant.
