First Metal Gear Solid 4 Gameplay for Master Collection Revealed

A new gameplay video has been released, offering the first extended look at Metal Gear Solid 4 as it appears in Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2. The hour-long stream showcases the game with updated features, giving fans a detailed preview of this enhanced version.

Okay, so I’m super hyped because Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 is coming out August 27, 2026! It’s going to be on PC, Switch (both the regular and OLED model), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. The first collection was awesome because it let you replay the originals – Metal Gear, Metal Gear 2, and the first three Metal Gear Solid games. This new volume is bringing Metal Gear Solid 4 and Peace Walker to modern consoles. Honestly, getting MGS4 is a huge deal because right now, the only way to play it legally is if you still have a PlayStation 3 and the original disc! So this collection is going to be a lifesaver for a lot of us fans.

Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 Reveals Metal Gear Solid 4 Gameplay

Recently, the YouTube channel WasyaganaTV, created by writer Mafia Kajita and voice actor Yuichi Nakamura, streamed an hour of gameplay from Metal Gear Solid 4, which is included in Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2. The livestream began at the very start of the game, during the ‘Ground Zero’ chapter, and continued until the cutscene introducing the character Meryl.

Fans of the original Metal Gear Solid 4 will quickly spot some changes in the gameplay. The most obvious difference in this new Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 version is that the game now runs at a much smoother 60 frames per second. The original game on the PlayStation 3 was limited to 30 FPS.

One clear improvement in this new version is significantly faster loading times, especially when Snake travels between locations. Keen-eyed viewers have also spotted that the product placement from Metal Gear Solid 4, like the Apple iPod, remains in the game.

Konami hasn’t shown us how Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker will play in Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2, but they’ve confirmed it will be the same version that came out in 2011 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The new collection focuses on Metal Gear Solid 4 and Peace Walker, but it also includes Metal Gear: Ghost Babel, the first game in the series made for handheld devices. Originally released for Game Boy Color in 2000, Ghost Babel started as a portable version of the original Metal Gear Solid, but ended up telling an alternate story set a few years after the events of the first game.
