Pokémon GO has revealed details about its upcoming season, Forever Forward! Over the next three months, players can look forward to challenging Super Mega Raids, the appearance of Dynamax Pokémon, new Pokémon hatching from eggs, and improvements to the Daily Discoveries feature. This is just a first look at what Forever Forward has in store.
The Forever Forward season in Pokémon GO begins on June 2, 2026, and lasts until September 8, 2026. A major highlight is this year’s Pokémon GO Fest! While GO Fest events have already taken place in Tokyo and are planned for Chicago and Copenhagen, the global virtual event will be held on July 17th and 18th. Players can look forward to Mega Mewtwo X and Y appearing in Super Mega Raids, along with many Legendary and rare Pokémon in raids and a wide variety of Pokémon appearing in the wild. There will even be Pokémon wearing special costumes!
We’ve known about Pokémon GO Fest for a while now, and most of what it will include. While we’re hoping for a smaller event beforehand, like the one for GO Tour Kanto earlier this year, Niantic hasn’t confirmed anything yet. We do know that the main activities during GO Fest will be free for all players.
These are still the earliest details, but here is what we know.
Super Mega Raids for Forever Forward Season
This season’s Super Mega Raids will include Mega Skarmory, as well as Mega Raichu in both its X and Y forms. While a leak suggested Mega Skarmory was coming, this is the first official announcement of Mega Raichu X and Y. Niantic has already stated that all future Mega Raid days will include these Super Mega Raids, so we can expect that to continue with this event.
Mega Skarmory isn’t very useful for raids, but Mega Raichu will be a strong choice when its Raid Day arrives. Specifically, Mega Raichu Y will be the most powerful Electric-type attacker in Pokémon GO, surpassing both Shadow Raikou and Mega Manectric in terms of overall power and Electric-type Mega power, respectively.
Okay, so Mega Mewtwo Y can definitely hold its own as an Electric-type, but honestly, it really shines when you build it as a Psychic attacker. What’s amazing though is just how crazy its stats are – seriously, they’re so good that you can pretty much make it work with any type of move you want. It’s just a powerhouse!
New Dynamax Pokemon in Pokemon GO
Forever Forward will also introduce some new Dynamax Pokemon during Max Mondays. These are:
- Dynamax Electabuzz
- Dynamax Magikarp
- Dynamax Feebas
As a Pokémon GO player, I’m really excited to hear that Dynamax Gyarados, Electivire, and Milotic will likely be added to the game – unless Niantic has some limits in place, of course! They’ve hinted at even more Pokémon coming, but are only showing us these three for now. I’m also hoping we’ll get at least one Gigantamax Max Battle Day during the ‘Forever Forward’ event, though those usually get their own separate announcement, so we’ll have to wait and see.
Pokemon GO Makes Daily Discovery Changes
Last season, we launched Daily Discoveries – special events and rewards happening each day of the week. We’re making a couple of improvements: Catch-Up Sunday is becoming Scenic Sunday, highlighting interesting routes, and Showcase Tuesday is getting even more features.
How Does Scenic Sunday Work
On Scenic Sunday, you’ll find more Pokémon appearing along routes, and incense will be extra effective at attracting them. You’ll also earn Buddy Candy more quickly while walking those routes. Plus, you can meet Mateo up to three times a day on routes to swap gifts!
Showcase Tuesday Changes
Pokémon GO recently added more PokéStops that can host Showcases. Starting with the next season, players will be able to participate in up to two extra Showcases each Tuesday, bringing the total to five. While the types of Showcase categories haven’t changed yet, this increase in opportunities is a positive development.
Many players feel that Showcase Tuesday lacks variety, with the same Pokémon consistently winning, such as Origin Palkia in Water-type showcases or Weezing in Poison-type. It would be great if Niantic updated Showcase Tuesday, even just by adding more categories. Fortunately, Niantic seems to be paying attention to feedback – they’ve already started increasing the number of PokéStops hosting Showcases and letting players participate in more of them.

Pokémon GO has announced the dates for Community Days next season: June 20th, July 4th, and August 15th. While the featured Pokémon for these events are still a secret, Pokémon GO has hinted that they’ll reveal the Pokémon for the June 20th Community Day this weekend.
This is Just the Beginning for Forever Forward
Next season in Pokémon GO, alongside the big updates, players can look forward to several smaller improvements. These include new Pokémon appearing in Eggs, fresh cups for the GO Battle League, and special offers in the in-game web store. The promotional artwork features Gimmighoul, suggesting a chance to encounter its shiny form during a seasonal event. Pikachu is also shown, but without a costume, leaving players to wonder what role it might play.
This is only a small preview of what’s coming, as the ‘Forever Forward’ season promises to be huge for Pokémon GO. Throughout its 10th anniversary year, the game has held exciting events like GO Tour Kanto and All-Out, but GO Fest is always the biggest highlight, and this year, Niantic has really delivered.
Honestly, I’m even more excited about what Niantic hasn’t told us yet! Things like the events leading up to GO Fest, or any other cool surprises they’re hiding. GO Fest hasn’t even started, so who knows what they’ve got up their sleeve – maybe something like that Mega Dragonite drop they did at GO Tour!
