Ubisoft has given fans a first look at ship boarding in the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, which has been updated from the original game. Players will also have a new reward choice when they successfully board an enemy ship after fulfilling the necessary conditions.
A key feature of the original Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag was its exciting ship combat. As players sailed with Edward Kenway, they’d encounter enemy ships and could choose to fight them. After damaging an enemy vessel, players could either destroy it for some treasure, or take it over by making the crew surrender or defeating them in battle. Black Flag Resynced will also allow ship boarding, but Ubisoft has made some improvements to make the experience even better.
Boarding a Ship is Better Than Ever in Black Flag Resynced
As the release of Black Flag Resynced on July 9th nears, Ubisoft has shown off improvements to the ship boarding experience. When you decide to raid another ship, a boarding battle begins. In the original game, climbing onto enemy ships as Kenway could be tricky, requiring precise jumping and rope swinging. Black Flag Resynced simplifies this with a new feature: you can now swing vertically from the top of your ship, the Jackdaw, directly onto the back of enemy vessels.
While airborne, Kenway can eliminate an enemy before touching down by pressing the designated button on their PlayStation or Xbox controller. Players can also swiftly draw their swords to quickly disarm opponents. However, enemies in Black Flag Resynced are smarter and will change their strategies, so players need to be prepared for a challenge when facing a large group. After successfully capturing a large ship like a Man O’ War or frigate, players can now access the Captain’s Lockbox for extra money, in addition to the usual options of repairing the Jackdaw, adding ships to their fleet, or reducing their wanted level.
I’m so excited for Black Flag Resynced! Ubisoft has said that because it’s still being worked on, some things might change slightly before the July 9th release. But from what I’ve seen online, the early previews are really positive! People are saying it feels just like the original Black Flag we all loved, but with updated graphics and smoother gameplay. It’s cool they’re leaving out the Abstergo stuff, and it sounds like we’ll still get tons of sneaking around and epic pirate adventures on the sea!

Despite some criticism of its hunting and whaling elements, Ubisoft is keeping those features in the upcoming remake of Black Flag Resynced. It’s still unclear what other updates or modifications players can expect.
