Xbox Game Pass Adds Two Notable RPGs, Including a Day-One Release

Xbox Game Pass subscribers can now play both The Outer Worlds: Spacer’s Choice Edition and Echo Generation 2. These two RPGs are the latest additions to the service this May, making a total of 15 and 16 new games for the month, and 88 new releases for Xbox Game Pass this year.

Obsidian Entertainment became part of Xbox in 2018, but their game, The Outer Worlds, was first released in 2019 by Private Division, a label owned by Take-Two. It was available on Xbox Game Pass from day one. In 2023, an enhanced version called The Outer Worlds: Spacer’s Choice Edition came out as a separate purchase. Players who already owned the original game and its downloadable content could upgrade to the new version for $9.99.

The Outer Worlds Remaster Joins Xbox Game Pass

The remastered version of the game became available on Xbox Game Pass on May 27th, three years after it was first released. While the game is currently published by Private Division on the Xbox Store, it’s unclear how long it will stay on the service, as many games from other publishers are only available for a limited time. However, because Microsoft owns both the game developer, Obsidian, and the game’s intellectual property, it’s likely this remaster could remain on Xbox Game Pass permanently. This possibility is strengthened by the fact that many players recently received a free upgrade to the Spacer’s Choice Edition.

Echo Generation 2 Now Available on Xbox Game Pass As Well

Our catalog was updated on May 27th and now includes the new game Echo Generation 2. While it’s also a role-playing game, it’s quite different from The Outer Worlds, featuring turn-based battles, a card-collecting system, and influences from classic Japanese role-playing games. The first Echo Generation launched on Xbox Game Pass in October 2021 and remained available for a year, so we estimate the sequel could be on the service until around mid-2027.

May 2026’s second wave of Xbox Game Pass additions wraps up with The Outer Worlds: Spacer’s Choice Edition and Echo Generation 2. Rounding out the new games for this month are Kabuto Park, a relaxing game about collecting bugs, and the lively party game Crashout Crew, both launching on May 28th.

Xbox Game Pass will remove five games on May 31st, including popular Japanese role-playing games like Persona 4: Golden and Metaphor: ReFantazio. Microsoft usually announces the first batch of games coming to Game Pass in June around the first or second day of the following month, and we expect the June 2026 lineup to be revealed in a similar timeframe.
