Summary

  • George R.R. Martin hinted at something big in Westeros on April 8 or 9.
  • Fans shouldn’t get excited for The Winds of Winter, it’s not coming soon.
  • Possibilities include updates on House of the Dragon, Aegon’s Conquest, direwolves, or A Dream of Spring.

Hey fellow Westeros fanatics! As hinted by the esteemed George R.R. Martin, something monumental is looming on our horizons, expected to arrive between April 8th and 9th. Can’t wait!

George R.R. Martin is the creator of the highly acclaimed multi-book fantasy saga, “A Song of Ice and Fire,” which spawned the hit HBO series “Game of Thrones” and its prequel, “Fire and Blood.” The long-awaited sixth volume in the series, “The Winds of Winter,” is still incomplete and has become a subject of legend among fans of his world, Westeros. Over a decade has elapsed since the publication of the fifth book, “A Dance with Dragons,” in 2011. Martin initially intended to complete “The Winds of Winter” and release it prior to Season 6 of “Game of Thrones” airing in 2016. However, things didn’t unfold as planned, and the latter seasons of the TV show received less favorable feedback from fans.

Something Big Is Coming To Westeros on April 8… or April 9

What Could It Be?

George R.R. Martin continues to assure fans that he will complete “The Winds of Winter,” but the excitement of his followers is consistently challenged as he works on various other projects like HBO’s “House of the Dragon,” AMC’s “Dark Winds,” and the video game “Elden Ring.” He also hints at upcoming books such as “A Dream of Spring.” On his Not A Blog site, Martin has once again given fans a taste of something fresh.

Something else is going to be happening on April 8 as well. (Or maybe on April 9).

This time though, he specifically ruled out any hopes of The Winds of Winter debuting anytime soon.

I’m not declaring that THE WINDS OF WINTER, the sixth book in A SONG OF ICE & FIRE series, has been finished yet. Please refrain from spreading such speculation. It seems like every casual remark I make gets misinterpreted as a sign that the book is about to be released soon. Unfortunately, it’s not. Just relax… at least until April 8th, then you can get excited again, but for an entirely different reason.

In Martin’s blog post, he ensures his readers stay informed about the latest happenings in Westeros. Filming for Season 3 of “House of the Dragon” has started in London, scheduled to air in 2026; “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,” HBO’s version of the first Dunk & Egg novella, “The Hedge Knight,” is progressing well; and “The Iron Throne,” a new stage play focusing on the Tourney at Harrenhal and Prince Rhaegar Targaryen’s actions that triggered Robert’s Rebellion, is showing promising signs of development.

Since all surprises regarding “The Winds of Winter” have been eliminated, what might be in store for Westeros? Fans should not anticipate excitement from George R. Martin’s upcoming medieval-themed cocktail bar in Santa Fe, titled “Milk of the Poppy.” Neither should they expect enthusiasm over a yet-to-be-revealed character joining “House of the Dragon” Season 3.

As a diehard fan, I can’t help but speculate that we might be on the brink of hearing some exciting news about “Aegon’s Conquest,” the gripping series chronicling the ruthless rise of Targaryen rule in Westeros. This project is yet to receive the official go-ahead from HBO, though rumors are swirling.

Additionally, it wouldn’t surprise me if there were whispers about incorporating the recently resurrected direwolves into the “Game of Thrones” universe.

And oh, could George R.R. Martin have already completed “A Dance with Dragons,” the final installment in the “Song of Ice and Fire” series? One can only hope!
