Jujutsu Kaisen’s Final Arc Sets Up The Next Limitless User After Gojo Satoru

The Limitless is a remarkably powerful cursed technique used by Gojo Satoru in the manga Jujutsu Kaisen. First appearing in Chapter 2, released on March 12, 2018, it’s considered the strongest technique in the series. It allows Gojo to manifest the concept of Infinity, giving him immense control over space. Gojo Satoru is unique – the first sorcerer in 400 years to possess both the Limitless and the Six Eyes – making him virtually unbeatable in modern times.

The latest chapter of Jujutsu Kaisen, Chapter 236 (released September 25, 2023, in Weekly Shonen Jump #43), saw the death of Gojo Satoru, and with him, the end of his unique Limitless technique. However, the author, Gege Akutami, has quickly established Yuta Okkotsu, the future head of the Gojo Clan, as the next user of Limitless.

Jujutsu Rules Officially Confirm Gojo’s Body Etched Limitless On Yuta Okkotsu’s Brain In Chapter 264

Following Gojo Satoru’s death in chapter 236 of Jujutsu Kaisen, Ui Ui took his body and Shoko repaired it. Shortly after, Yuta Okkotsu also fell in battle. While Shoko was stitching Yuta up in chapter 261, he displayed incredible determination by using Kenjaku’s cursed technique through his Copy ability to enter Gojo’s body. This surprising move impressed fans worldwide and showcased how much Yuta had grown as a character.

Chapter 261 of Jujutsu Kaisen, released on May 27th, 2024, showed Yuta Okkotsu taking control of Gojo’s body. Surprisingly, Yuta couldn’t use his usual technique, Copy, while inside Gojo. This was because Copy relies on being with Rika, and without her, it was ineffective. However, Yuta immediately gained access to Gojo’s unique abilities – the Limitless technique and the Six Eyes – which seems to be connected to how brains work within the Jujutsu Kaisen universe.

“I was wrong to underestimate you, Okkotsu Yuta. I didn’t believe you could achieve this.” – Ryomen Sukuna, Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 261

Kenjaku had the ability to turn ordinary people into sorcerers by altering their brains. He could give people the power to use cursed techniques, effectively creating sorcerers where none existed before. In Chapter 136, Kenjaku himself revealed that cursed techniques are actually stored within the brain, explaining how he was able to do this and create vessels and users alike.

I altered the brains of people like Yuji Itadori, who consumed cursed objects, and others, such as Junpei and Yoshina, who naturally shouldn’t have been able to use cursed techniques, so they could become sorcerers. — Kenjaku, Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 136

In chapter 230, released on July 31, 2023, Ryomen Sukuna reveals to Gojo Satoru that cursed techniques are physically stored in the brain, specifically near the right prefrontal cortex. This explains why Gojo can recover his cursed technique after using reverse cursed technique to heal himself. When he rebuilds his brain using this technique, the part containing the cursed technique is also restored, allowing him to use his domain expansion again.

Sukuna explains that the technique is fundamentally ingrained in the user’s mind, specifically located near the right prefrontal cortex.

When Yuta switched bodies with Gojo, Gojo’s body didn’t have a functioning brain of its own – it was essentially being controlled by Yuta’s brain. According to the author, Gege Akutami, this means Yuta’s brain somehow absorbed the power of Limitless. This explains how Yuta was able to use Gojo’s abilities like Infinity, Red, Blue, Purple, and even Unlimited Void, officially making him the next user of Limitless.

Kenjaku Carrying Multiple Cursed Techniques After Body Hopping Further Backs Yuta Having Limitless

I’ve noticed something really fascinating about Kenjaku: whenever he jumps into a new body, he doesn’t just get a new form, he keeps the techniques of that body. It seems the techniques are essentially imprinted on his brain, so when he swaps brains, they come along for the ride. We saw this confirmed during his fight with Yuki Tsukumo – he actually admitted the Gravity technique he was using was a reversed version of Anti-Gravity, originally belonging to Kaori Itadori, whose body he’d inhabited. He ‘learned’ the technique and carried it with him. It’s not just him, either. Remember when Yuta briefly had Gojo’s body? He took Limitless with him when he switched back – the technique became permanently part of him. It’s like these techniques stick to whoever’s consciousness is in control.

Yuki Tsukumo later explained that Kenjaku can possess up to four cursed techniques, and potentially even more if he uses a Binding Vow. Essentially, each time Kenjaku or Yuta switched bodies, they gained new techniques by permanently imprinting them on their brains. This was confirmed in Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 262, where Ryomen Sukuna explicitly stated that Yuta’s ability to use Limitless is a result of Kenjaku’s body-switching method.

Sukuna wondered if the body swap affected Megumi’s abilities. He questioned whether Megumi could even use the techniques he’d copied while in this state. Even if he could, Sukuna believed he already knew what those techniques were. He dismissed Megumi’s current power as simply a consequence of Kenjaku’s influence – nothing more than a side effect.

Sukuna verified that Yuta’s brain possessed the Limitless technique. Essentially, Yuta became the second known user of Limitless after Gojo, and he retained it even after returning to his body. It’s still unclear how effectively Yuta can use Limitless without the Six Eyes, as that ability isn’t a cursed technique itself, but rather a natural trait.

Yuta’s Limitless Could Be Directly Tied To His Ascension To The Top Of Gojo Clan In Volume 30

I was absolutely blown away by Volume 30 of Jujutsu Kaisen! It was officially revealed in an extra chapter that Yuta Okkotsu somehow became the head of the Gojo Clan after Gojo’s passing. Honestly, it’s so interesting because Yuta doesn’t even have a direct bloodline connection to the clan – Gojo’s parents and others are still part of it! The fact that he, of all people, ended up leading them is a huge mystery. Their only real link is through a shared ancestor, Michizane no Sugawara, but that alone doesn’t seem like enough to explain it. It really makes sense, though, if Yuta ended up inheriting Limitless after Gojo was gone – that would definitely justify him taking the lead!

The link between Yuta and Michizane Sugawara, combined with Yuta’s mastery of Limitless, solidifies his position as the rightful heir to the clan. This explains why Yuta becoming the head makes so much sense. It would be fascinating to hear from Gege Akutami about how powerful Prime Yuta is, and how effectively he uses Limitless, considering it was imprinted on his brain while he was inside Gojo’s body. However, the author hasn’t shared any details yet and is currently working on new projects. Hopefully, we’ll learn more about this in the future.
