007 First Light is this year’s exciting spy adventure, offering a fresh look at James Bond’s beginnings. Players will enjoy the game, particularly the stealth gameplay, and will frequently have to decide how to deal with enemies: by bluffing, luring them into traps, or taking them down directly. This guide will show you the best times and methods for each approach.
When to Bluff in 007 First Light
- How to Bluff: Q on PC, Circle on PlayStation, B on Xbox
In 007 First Light, players likely won’t use the ‘Bluff’ ability very often because it takes a lot of Instinct energy. It’s mainly helpful when you’re sneaking around in restricted areas and trying to deceive guards and other characters.
If a character in the game – like a guard – speaks to you as you approach, you can use the ‘Bluff’ option to quickly explain yourself and avoid a conflict or being asked to leave. Keep in mind that you can’t bluff Watchers, and the effect isn’t permanent – you’ll see an ‘X’ appear over the character’s head when they’re no longer fooled.
As we discussed before, using Bluffs requires Instinct, which you build up as you play. You can see how much Instinct you have on your watch, in the lower-left corner of the screen. When a Bluff is available, its cost in Instinct will be shown at the bottom of the screen. Here’s a quick guide to earning more Instinct:
- Takedowns
- Eliminating enemies
- Eavesdropping
When to Lure in 007 First Light
- How to Lure: V on PC, Up on the D-Pad on PlayStation and Xbox
Luring is a useful tactic, but it’s best used only occasionally, primarily when playing stealthily. To lure an enemy, simply look at them and press the assigned button. This will cause Bond to make a sound, and the enemy will usually investigate.
Lures come in handy in the following circumstances:
- Used to move one target out of the line of sight of other enemies for a stealthy takedown.
- Used to distract one enemy or a group of enemies and move them to another location so you can sneak around.
- Bring an enemy just out-of-reach closer for a quick takedown.
Similar to Bluffs, Lures rely on an enemy’s instincts. However, you can often get the same result by disabling things in the environment – like radios or generators – which can save you from using valuable Instinct.
When to Takedown in 007 First Light
- How to Takedown: X on PC, X on Xbox, Square on PlayStation
Taking down enemies in 007 First Light is often done using takedowns, and you can frequently perform them after drawing an enemy near you. When you’re trying to be stealthy, takedowns work best on individual enemies who aren’t being watched by others. Here’s a guide to using takedowns effectively during stealth sections:
- On single targets that have their backs to you, approach them from behind (often crouched) and close in to perform a Takedown. Similarly, you can perform the same feat on an enemy below you by approaching a ledge and then pressing the Takedown button.
- If you are behind cover that is low enough to mantle, you can perform a Cover Takedown. Use a Lure or a Distraction to bring the enemy close if they are too far away, and then wait for the prompt to pop up to perform a Takedown.
- If the previous two options are not possible and an enemy is out of reach, you can stagger them by throwing a nearby item (or weapon that is low on ammo) at the enemy, or by staggering them with your Dart Phone. When staggered, approach them and perform a Takedown.
When you’re discovered by enemies, during close combat, or in designated ‘License to Kill’ zones, you can eliminate them with a special finishing move. To do this, fight them hand-to-hand until they’re stunned, then a prompt will appear allowing you to perform a takedown and finish them off.
