With costs rising, getting good value for your money is crucial, especially when it comes to video games – prices vary wildly, from a few dollars to over a hundred. That’s why I’ve put together a list of strategy games that offer incredible replayability. These games are fun to play again and again, and you’ll continue to discover new content and experiences even after many hours – possibly hundreds!

I’m only going to talk about what makes these games fun to play again and again. If you’d like more detailed information about any specific game, I’ve included links to my other articles where you can learn more at your own speed. These 12 games are just a small taste of the many great strategy games available. 12 – 9 Kings

Hooded Horse has consistently released excellent games recently, and many of them are truly exceptional. Their 2025 strategy game, 9 Kings, received overwhelmingly positive feedback on Steam (92% positive with almost 20,000 reviews) and is incredibly replayable. The game combines roguelike elements with fast-paced gameplay, challenging you to build and optimize a small kingdom within limited space. It’s addictive because you’re always experimenting with different builds and army combinations. With nine unique Kings to play as – each with their own deck and style – and the ability to combine your King’s cards with those of your enemies, the possibilities are endless. 11 – ISLANDERS: New Shores

Many strategy games can be pretty intense, as they often require making important decisions under pressure. But if you’re looking for something more relaxing – a game you can enjoy after work without getting stressed – I recommend ISLANDERS: New Shores.

I’ve been playing this two-part game series ever since the first one came out in 2019, and it’s been a great way for me to relax ever since. It’s perfect to play while listening to podcasts, YouTube videos, or music. The game gives you buildings to place, and you earn points based on their location and how they interact with surrounding buildings. You beat a target score to advance, then start the cycle again. It’s incredibly satisfying to keep restarting and trying to improve your high score. I really love ISLANDERS and find myself returning to it often – it’s always installed on my computer.

10 – Heroes of Might & Magic: Olden Era

I wanted to highlight a great game released in 2026, and Heroes of Might & Magic: Olden Era immediately stood out. It’s a fantastic return to the gameplay fans loved in Heroes 3, something they’ve been requesting for almost 30 years. And thankfully, Olden Era delivers! Even in its Early Access form, it’s packed with content: six unique factions, 18 heroes per faction, tons of spells and maps, and even a campaign to start. Plus, a map randomizer keeps every playthrough fresh. You can play traditionally with multiple heroes, or my preferred single-hero mode. It’s easily one of my favorite games of 2026. While some might still prefer the finished Heroes of Might & Magic III, a lot has changed since then, and it’s time to embrace the new era. Heroes 3 remains a classic, but Olden Era is a worthy successor.

9 – Hearts of Iron IV

I could have easily chosen other strategy games – some are even more complex and offer just as much replay value if you’re dedicated to learning them. Games like War In The East 2, Warplan, and Strategic Command WWII are all good examples. However, those games primarily focus on combat, while Hearts of Iron IV offers a much wider experience. It realistically simulates the entire scope of World War II, including political maneuvering, diplomacy, spying, and managing industrial production – it’s a truly comprehensive game.

What’s really great is that Hearts of Iron IV combines all these complex elements into a game that’s surprisingly easy to learn, even if you’ve never played a grand strategy or war game before. Beyond the detailed mechanics, the game is incredibly replayable because you can guide any nation throughout the entire pre-war, war, and post-war periods. You set your own objectives and create your own unique challenges – whether that’s a peaceful game, starting a war early as an aggressive power, or even conquering the world with a small country. The game allows for all of these approaches. Just be aware that the game has a lot of downloadable content, and some of the most interesting countries to play require extra purchases.
