You Won’t Believe What’s Hiding in Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ Claws of Awaji DLC

In “Assassin’s Creed Shadows,” Ubisoft transported fans to a period that the series followers had eagerly anticipated: the late 1500s, during Japan’s Sengoku era – a time marked by severe internal strife and persistent conflict. This game narrates the efforts of historical figure Oda Nobunaga as he strives to unite the tumultuous land. Initially at odds in this struggle are characters Naoe and Yasuke, but they eventually join forces to bring some semblance of tranquility and order to Japan.

Following tradition as a dedicated fan, I eagerly anticipate that Assassin’s Creed Shadows will expand its narrative with the Claws of Awaji DLC. Unlike previous DLCs in the AC series, which sometimes felt disconnected from the main storyline, this one seems to be thoughtfully crafted to delve deeper into some of the larger plot threads that were left hanging at the end of the primary campaign.

Major spoilers for Assassin’s Creed Shadows below.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ Claws of the Awaji DLC Looks Like it Will be a Direct Continuation of the Main Game’s Plot

Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ Conclusion Left Some Major Outstanding Questions

During Yasuke and Naoe’s adventure, they discover a plot to sabotage Nobunaga’s mission of a unified Japan. The pair pursue the hidden Shinbakufu group that has seized control and caused chaos, revealing more about themselves and their past in the process. They manage to take out most of the Shinbakufu members, ultimately tracking down and confronting the Templars from Assassin’s Creed Shadows, who had enslaved Yasuke.

Following some significant events, Naoe reconnects with Hattori Honzo, a renowned swordsman who was previously allied with her clan but turned traitor because he harbored feelings for Naoe’s mother, the assassin Tsuyu, who was thought to have been dead for years. Honzo hints that Tsuyu might still be alive. This revelation revives Naoe’s quest to retrieve and safeguard the Imperial Regalia – a collection of three decorative chests believed to contain Pieces of Eden, which Tsuyu entrusted to her father, Nagato. As a result, Claws of Awaji unfolds by weaving these two narratives together.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows’ Claws of Awaji DLC Will Likely Center on the Search for Tsuyu and the Third Regalia

As stated on Ubisoft’s official site, the Claws of Awaji DLC will feature:

Naoe and Yasuke embark on an entirely fresh journey to the enigmatic Island of Awaji, lying past Osaka Bay. Their mission is to recover a long-lost treasure in this area, but they face relentless pursuit by dangerous adversaries. Retrieving the artifact, and ensuring Japan’s destiny, will not be simple given the numerous pitfalls and sneak attacks that put our heroes in peril.

At the close of “Assassin’s Creed Shadows”, Naoe and Hanzo were found in control of merely two Regalia artifacts. It’s highly likely that the remaining item is the third box. With the hint that Tsuyu might still be alive, both characters appear to be prime candidates for the upcoming DLC content. The “lethal adversaries” referred to are the Sanzoku Ippa, a clandestine group who seem to mirror Naoe and the shinobi’s tactics, though their connection to either the Shinbakufu or Templars remains a mystery that may unfold as another layer.

The DLC guarantees an extra 10 hours of captivating content, as developers hint at a chilling atmosphere for Claws of the Awaji. Preliminary information suggests it may have a stronger connection to the events of Assassin’s Creed Shadows than previous expansions, potentially offering more insight or resolution regarding certain aspects.

Claws of Awaji’s release date for now is set simply for “later in 2025.”
