I’m really excited for the new Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol anime! It’s finally going to cover the Moro Saga, which is a big deal for fans of the Dragon Ball Super manga. From what I understand, Moro, this incredibly powerful villain who can eat entire planets, escapes from the Galactic Patrol’s prison. That’s when Goku and Vegeta get pulled into the conflict, teaming up with the Galactic Patrol to take him down. Even with all the training they went through during the Tournament of Power and the events in the Dragon Ball Super: Broly movie, they’ll be seriously challenged – Moro is apparently on a whole other level!
In the upcoming Dragon Ball Super 2, Vegeta will travel to Planet Yardrat to improve his Spirit Control. Meanwhile, Goku will train with Merus, a mysterious member of the Galactic Patrol. Although Goku briefly achieved Ultra Instinct during the Tournament of Power, he can’t activate it reliably on his own. Training with Merus will help Goku master the strongest form of Ultra Instinct yet, as seen in Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol, and move him closer to the power of the Gods.
Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol Will Introduce The Most Powerful Version of Ultra Instinct
Throughout the Dragon Ball Super anime, Goku achieved both the Sign and complete forms of Ultra Instinct, but he hasn’t learned to activate them at will. In the movie Dragon Ball Super: Broly, Goku momentarily accesses Ultra Instinct during his battle with Broly, but quickly reverts to his Super Saiyan Blue form. The upcoming movie, Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol, will feature Merus training Goku to fully master Ultra Instinct.
Merus is unique – he’s both a member of the Galactic Patrol and an attendant to an Angel. Because of Angel laws, he can’t directly interfere with Moro or use his full strength. That’s why, in the Dragon Ball Super manga, he trains Goku in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, starting with the fundamentals. He helps Goku focus and clear his mind so he can control and use Ultra Instinct whenever needed.
Perfected Ultra Instinct Lives Up to All the Hype
Goku doesn’t fully master Ultra Instinct during his training. It’s only after Merus makes the ultimate sacrifice – giving his life while battling Moro – that Goku understands what’s required. Witnessing Merus’s fight allows Goku to finally grasp Ultra Instinct and achieve its perfected form.
Perfected Ultra Instinct is the most powerful form of Ultra Instinct, granting Goku complete mastery over his abilities. This form significantly increases his strength, speed, and defense, allowing him to automatically react to and counter any attack. When at his peak, Goku can even use the energy from Perfected Ultra Instinct to create a massive Spirit Avatar, overwhelming opponents with sheer power. As of chapter 103 of Dragon Ball Super, Perfected Ultra Instinct remains Goku’s primary transformation.
Goku’s Mastery of Ultra Instinct is Only Going to Improve From Here
While Perfected Ultra Instinct is the most powerful form so far, Goku will continue to develop and use the technique in future storylines. When the story reaches the Granolah the Survivor Saga in Dragon Ball Super 2, Goku will achieve True Ultra Instinct. This new version lets him activate and control Ultra Instinct at will, without being affected by his emotions or state of mind – and it seems to have no drawbacks.
What’s really amazing about True Ultra Instinct is that Goku can combine it with his Super Saiyan transformations, creating an incredibly strong new form. During his fight with Granolah, Goku blends Super Saiyan God and Super Saiyan Blue with True Ultra Instinct, making him tough enough to survive an attack that would normally be fatal.
In the Dragon Ball Super manga’s Super Hero Saga, Goku gains complete control over his Ultra Instinct form, allowing him to activate it whenever he chooses. During his battle with Gohan Beast in Chapter 103, Gohan briefly disrupts Goku’s Perfected Ultra Instinct, but Goku immediately re-engages it at full power. As Goku prepares to face Black Frieza, he’s stronger than ever and will likely push the limits of Perfected Ultra Instinct even further. He’ll need all his strength to defeat Frieza.
