As a huge LEGO and Pokémon fan, I’m so excited about this! LEGO is planning a set based on the Pokémon Trading Card Game, and they’re letting us vote on which one they should make! It’s awesome because after LEGO partnered with MEGA Bloks for a while, they finally got the Pokémon license starting in 2026. They didn’t waste any time, either – we’ve already gotten some really cool sets featuring popular Pokémon, plus things like the Kanto Gym Badges and a Pokémon Center. I can’t wait to see what they come up with next!
Although LEGO hasn’t officially announced anything, images of upcoming LEGO Pokémon sets have appeared online. The Pokémon franchise has become incredibly popular over the past thirty years, giving LEGO plenty of options for sets. Currently, it looks like LEGO is focusing on the original Pokémon games, but they’ll likely create sets based on later generations as well, moving beyond Pokémon Red and Green.
LEGO’s Pokemon TCG Finalists
In March, LEGO launched a contest challenging builders to design a LEGO set inspired by the Pokémon Trading Card Game. Since there are over 1,000 Pokémon, LEGO provided a list of 30 allowed Pokémon – excluding popular choices like Pikachu, Charizard, and Eevee – to ensure originality. Now, the finalists have been selected, and fans can vote for their favorite design featuring Gyarados, Mew, Rowlet, Joltik, or Arceus.

You can now vote for the next LEGO set on the official LEGO website! Voting is open until June 11th, but you’ll have to wait a while to find out the winner – the announcement won’t be made until February 4th. The LEGO Ideas program lets fans design potential sets, though the final product released in stores might be slightly different from the original submission. It will be a similar design, but with some possible changes.
It’ll be fascinating to see which of these Pokémon designs wins the most votes. Gyarados and Mew are well-known since they’ve been part of the series since the beginning. Arceus is also a strong contender, being known as the ‘Original One’ and having a significant backstory that resonates with fans. Rowlet has an advantage too, as it was a starter Pokémon in both Sun and Moon and Pokémon Legends: Arceus, making it familiar to a wider audience. While all these Pokémon are popular, it might seem surprising if Joltik won, but LEGO clearly chose these five finalists because they’re all excellent designs. Ultimately, any of them could win, regardless of how well-known they are.

The Pokémon Trading Card Game has always been incredibly popular, and a LEGO set based on it could be a real hit. This is one of LEGO’s best ideas since they started making Pokémon sets, and it suggests exciting things to come. Pokémon has a rich history, offering many opportunities for creative LEGO designs beyond just the most famous characters. While it’s still unclear which designs will actually be sold, Pokémon fans will need to vote for their favorites and hope their choices are made!
