So, guess what? Coinbase’s little pet project, Base, is about to get a glow-up! 💅

Jesse Pollak, the head honcho of Base, decided to spill the tea on X (formerly Twitter, because, you know, branding) on May 24. Spoiler alert: it’s all about speed, savings, and decentralization. Who doesn’t love a good makeover story? 🎉

Base’s Makeover: Can It Outshine Solana and Sui? 🤔

Our dear Coinbase exec is on a mission to make Base the belle of the blockchain ball. They’re aiming to cut transaction times down to a lightning-fast 200 milliseconds and keep those pesky fees under a dime. Because who wants to pay more than that for a digital transaction? Not me! 💸

And wait for it… they’re dreaming big! The goal is to process over 200 transactions per second (TPS) in the short term, with a wild ambition to hit 1 million TPS. Yes, you heard that right. One million! Talk about a lofty goal! 🌈

But that’s not all, folks! Pollak is also on a quest for decentralization. They’re planning to move key parts of the protocol onto Ethereum’s Layer 1 using smart contracts. Because why not make things a bit more complicated? 🤷‍♀️

Base is also getting a facelift with some serious infrastructure upgrades. The goal? To be the most user-friendly Ethereum Layer 2 network out there. Because who doesn’t want a smooth ride? 🚗💨

And here’s the cherry on top: Flashblocks! This snazzy system will allow for near-instant “preconfirmation blocks.” So, users can enjoy a faster and smoother experience. The team is already testing it out and plans to roll it out on the mainnet by summer 2025. Fingers crossed! 🤞

Oh, and let’s not forget about gas! Base is looking to double its gas throughput from 25 million gas per second (Mgas/s) to 50 Mgas/s in Q2, eventually aiming for a whopping 250 Mgas/s by year-end. That’s a 100-fold improvement! Talk about a gas guzzler! ⛽️
