The CTO expressed disappointment upon re-watching the video, offering a vague explanation in his tweet’s conclusion.

The first occasion I came across this was during a Zoom call. Towards the end, someone sent me a message in the chat window with the query “Hair?”. In the video, Garlinghouse condemned individuals posing as him as “despicable charlatans.” He also mentioned that Ripple was taking action against these impostors. The clip additionally showcases a look-alike of Garlinghouse who peddles a typical cryptocurrency con, urging viewers to transfer any quantity of XRP to him and receive double the amount in return.

In the video, the genuine Garlinghouse dons a suit, while his lookalike wears a robe, a T-shirt, and plaid pajama pants instead. Contrary to what the imposter might suggest, the actual CEO clarified that there are no legitimate XRP handouts; only scams exist.

Crypto scams getting more sophisticated

Since around 2020, scammers have intensified their efforts to trick XRP users into giving up their cryptocurrency. As a result, Ripple has had to become more vigilant in combating these scams.

Approximately four years ago, a major player in the blockchain industry criticized YouTube for permitting fraudulent crypto schemes involving Ripple and fake videos of its CEO. Nowadays, due to advancements in AI technology, scammers have stepped up their game and are executing more complex cryptocurrency scams.

More recently, U.Today revealed that falsified videos featuring Brad Garlinghouse of Ripple and Charles Hoskinson of Cardano emerged, instructing the community to transfer XRP and ADA with the promise of receiving double the amount given back as part of supposed giveaways.

Charles Hoskinson expressed his belief that in the coming years, artificial intelligence-generated deepfake videos would become indistinguishable from genuine recordings.
