Ripple Labs, those folks who make everyone say “XRP” in a hushed, conspiratorial tone, have teamed up with Chipper Cash, a fintech company that’s apparently doing things right in Africa. You know, Africa, the continent where everyone assumes your phone is a brick and your internet connection is powered by carrier pigeons. 🤣
They’re saying this partnership will make cross-border payments faster, cheaper, and more reliable. Which, let’s be honest, sounds like a miracle in the world of international money transfers—you know, the ones that make you feel like you’re sending a letter by horseback. 🐎
The press release, which I’m sure was written in the most exciting language imaginable, says Chipper Cash will use Ripple’s technology to give users 24/7 access to their money. And I quote, “Consumers across Chipper Cash’s footprint—spanning nine countries in Africa—are expected to benefit from significantly reduced friction when receiving money from virtually anywhere in the world.” Friction? Is that what we’re calling this whole “financial system” thing now?
A Ripple exec said something about “driving economic growth and innovation across the markets they serve.” Which, frankly, sounds like something you’d say if you were trying to convince your grandma to invest in Dogecoin. 👵
But hey, maybe this is the start of something big. Maybe one day we’ll all be able to send money to Africa using nothing but a wink and a prayer…and a whole lot of XRP. 🙏
