After 3 Years, Berserk’s Best Version “Will Continue” in Official Update

Berserk is widely considered one of the greatest seinen manga of all time. Sadly, its creator, Kentaro Miura, passed away on May 6, 2021, which left the future of the series in question. Fortunately, with guidance from Miura’s close friend and fellow manga artist, Kouji Mori, new chapters of Berserk have continued to be released over the last five years, and a recent break in publication is about to end. However, Dark Horse, the publisher of the English version, hasn’t released these newer chapters in the same high-quality deluxe format as before.

The new re-release of Dark Horse’s Berserk Deluxe is the best way to experience the manga. Unlike standard 3-in-1 editions, these volumes are larger, showcasing the incredible artwork in a more impressive format. They’re also beautifully bound in leather and include a built-in bookmark, making them a premium collector’s item. While the series initially stopped at Volume 14 – which included the final chapters written by Kentaro Miura before his passing, along with the official series guidebook – Dark Horse has just announced some good news for fans after a three-year wait.

Berserk Deluxe Will Return Once Volume 44 Releases in Japan

Dark Horse Comics has announced that the deluxe edition of Berserk will continue, but it will have to wait until enough new chapters are available. Only two volumes have been released since the original author, Kentaro Miura, passed away, which isn’t enough material for a new deluxe edition. Many fans thought the deluxe line had ended with chapter 364, believing it would only include Miura’s work on the series.

After the tragic passing of Kentaro Miura, the manga Berserk hasn’t quite felt the same, but Kouji Mori is clearly dedicated to Miura’s work and is doing a great job continuing the story. Thankfully, Miura left behind detailed notes, so the current team isn’t simply improvising – they have a solid understanding of the planned direction and eventual ending of Berserk. However, fans shouldn’t expect Volume 44 to be released in Japan anytime in the near future.

Each volume of Berserk usually contains nine chapters, and currently, only one chapter is still missing. The publisher, Young Animal, has stated that three new chapters are finished, but it will take at least three months for them to be released. It’s unclear if the manga will pause again after these three chapters. Ideally, Young Animal would publish a chapter each month for the remainder of the year, but even with that consistent release schedule, Berserk Volume 44 wouldn’t be available until 2027 at the soonest.

Berserk Volume 43 Releases in English This October

Dark Horse Comics will release the latest English edition of Berserk later this year. Volume 43, containing chapters 374-382, is scheduled for October 27, 2026. Currently, Guts is facing his darkest moments since the Eclipse, and is deeply broken, a shadow of his former self. He’s become depressed and lost, much like Griffith was at the end of the Golden Age arc, and is no longer the powerful warrior fans have come to admire.

Volume 43 of Berserk is shaping up to be a pivotal and intense installment. It will delve deeper into the story’s world, show significant and troubling changes for Guts, and feature exciting action sequences that suggest the plot is about to accelerate. The current Eastern Exile arc feels like a major shift for the series and Guts’s journey, and it seems the author, Kouji Mori, is laying the groundwork for the story’s conclusion – which likely means difficult times ahead for Guts and his companions.
