How Nerona Imu’s ‘Akuma’ Form Surpasses Luffy’s Nika Power
Although Luffy, as the Sun God Nika, has incredible potential, he hasn’t fully unlocked his powers yet. In contrast, Nerona Imu has lived for 800 years and completely controls his Devil Fruit ability. Revealed in One Piece chapter 1179, Imu’s Devil Fruit is the original, and all others stem from it. This fruit grants him the power to transform into the Devil itself, a power so great it can threaten even the strongest nation in the One Piece world, Elbaph.
Imu’s unique fruit grants him the ability to transform into a devil and a devil hybrid. He can also imbue anything around him – living or not – with demonic power, and uses a spell book to access even more abilities. We’ve seen him use powers like Covenant, which temporarily grants his followers immortality, healing, and immense strength. He can even turn people into demonic slaves. His power is so great that his presence on Elbaph overwhelms the combined strength of both Nika and Nidhoggr, clearly demonstrating that he currently surpasses the Sun God Nika in overall power.

Why A Massive Elbaph Defeat Is Imminent For The Straw Hat Captain
Eiichiro Oda, the author of One Piece, has made it clear that while Nika is very powerful, he isn’t as strong as Imu right now. Luffy hasn’t reached his full potential yet and still needs to get better at using his Devil Fruit powers and Conqueror’s Haki.

Because of this, he won’t be able to beat Imu, meaning defeat is coming for both him and the Straw Hat Pirates. It’s unclear exactly how this will affect the rest of the story, but it’s very likely things won’t end happily for Luffy.
The Overwhelming Threat Of Imu’s God Powers
So far in the Elbaph Arc, Imu has only demonstrated a small part of his immense power as a God. He possesses a vast collection of spells that he can use in battle in many different ways. Imu can create weapons using his spells, and even manipulate enemies, turning them into allies or forcing them to fight each other. He’s also capable of draining the life force from his opponents.
Watching the One Piece world, it’s clear Imu is on a completely different level than anyone else. He’s unbelievably powerful – the strongest, without a doubt. The stories say he even beat Joy Boy way back in the Void Century, which really solidifies his position. Right now, it feels like no one can even come close to challenging him, and Luffy has a huge mountain to climb if he wants to surpass that power.
