Why Re:Zero Deserves The Title Of ‘The New King Of Isekai’

The ‘Isekai’ genre is flooded with similar stories, making it difficult for any new series to feel original. However, ‘Re:Zero’ has not only managed to stand out from the crowd, but it’s also become incredibly influential, practically defining the genre and achieving widespread recognition among anime fans.

The story centers around Natsuki Subaru, who has the unique ability to come back to life after death. This power creates compelling and challenging situations that he must overcome. Originally launched as a light novel by Tappei Nagatsuki on April 20, 2012, the series is still being written and hasn’t reached its ending. Season 3 of Re:Zero was a particularly strong arc, focusing on the character Priestella and significantly advancing the storylines of Subaru, Emilia, and their allies with well-developed plots and thrilling action.

Re:Zero remains incredibly popular, particularly in Japan, where it has a dedicated fanbase. Within the Isekai genre, it’s one of the top series, with That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime being its main competition. Many believe Re:Zero rightfully deserves the title of the leading Isekai anime.

Despite A Major Win, Re:Zero’s Failed To Claim More Accolades At 2026 Crunchyroll Awards

It’s not surprising that Re:Zero won Best Isekai Anime – it’s widely considered one of the genre’s best. However, many fans were disappointed it wasn’t nominated for other awards, despite its high quality. Considering its popularity, it seemed deserving of recognition in categories like Best Continuing Series, Anime of the Year, or Best Main Character.

Many fans, especially those who enjoy both Re:Zero and the Isekai genre, were disappointed by the lack of Isekai series among the top nominations. It seems the judging panel didn’t feel any Isekai anime deserved recognition in categories beyond the ‘Best Isekai Anime’ award.
