Mike Novogratz, CEO of Galaxy Digital, highlighted a recent post by Reddit’s co-founder Alexis Ohanian on the X social media platform. In his post, Ohanian discussed the intriguing intersection of artificial intelligence (AI) and blockchain technology, as perceived by Novogratz.
Based on Ohanian’s perspective, one technology has become essential due to the overwhelming presence of another. He points out that the internet now contains vast amounts of images produced using artificial intelligence.
A 2023 study uncovered that the production of 150 years’ worth of images occurred within a year, thanks to advanced text-to-image models like Stable Diffusion and Midjourney.
In simpler terms, Ohanian envisioned a world where distinguishing real digital photos from AI-generated ones becomes impossible. With AI technology advancing so quickly, it’s becoming increasingly challenging for people to tell the difference between authentic and manipulated images. Imagine a scenario where every JPG image you come across could be questionable – is it genuine, or was it produced by an AI? The entrepreneur posed this thought-provoking question to us.
According to the co-founder of Reddit, blockchain tech can authenticate the source of images. By digitally signing an unchangeable worldwide record with your device, you can confirm a picture’s legitimacy.
According to Ohanian, blockchain technology could be highly beneficial in this scenario. He explained, “Whether you’re a President, CEO, or even a teenager, owning the proof of ownership for an image will soon become extremely valuable.”
Since 2020, the use of blockchain technology for verification has become more commonplace. For instance, Ernst & Young, a leading accounting firm, introduced a blockchain solution for detecting counterfeit sake. Similarly, IBM’s blockchain technology is now being used by the Norwegian fisheries industry to trace salmon and combat seafood fraud.
