In the game titled “Persona5: The Phantom X,” the combat system offers a deeper experience than many players might initially realize. It’s possible to conquer all the main bosses within the Palaces without having a flawless team and strategy, but those who wish to fine-tune a select group of Phantom Thieves for an optimal party will find additional depth.
In a battle, Status Effects play a pivotal role in determining its outcome or enhancing your control, as they come in two types: Elemental and Spiritual. It’s essential to understand these categories since it can guide you in choosing the right abilities to amplify their impact or select those for healing your team members.
Every Elemental Ailment in P5X

There are four Elemental Ailments based on the four main elements: fire, wind, ice, and electric.
| Elemental Ailment | Associated Element | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Burn | Fire | Lose 5% of HP for two turns. |
| Shock | Electric | Increase the chance of receiving a critical hit by 10% for two turns. |
| Freeze | Ice | Decrease attack by 12% for two turns. |
| Windswept | Wind | Decrease defense by 12% for two turns. |
Unlike Elemental or Spiritual afflictions, a Curse is a special kind of status effect. It’s typically applied through certain curse abilities and makes the affected character lose 1% of their health over two turns. Conversely, a Blessing is a status granted by Light skills, which restores 1% of a character’s health every two turns.
As a dedicated follower of this game, I’ve noticed that Psy and Nuclear abilities aren’t traditional elemental attacks that inflict ailments like poison or freeze. Instead, these skills enhance the odds of scoring critical technical hits, making them quite formidable in their unique way.
- Psy – Deal a Technical hit with 35% increased damage on enemies with a Spiritual Ailment.
- Nuclear – Deal a Technical hit with 18% increased damage on enemies with an Elemental Ailment.
