Actress and devoted fan of “Dungeons & Dragons” for many years, Anjali Bhimani, is soon to release her first adventure book titled “The Malady of Minarrh,” through her publishing house Road to Ithaka Press. Bhimani had an interview with Game Rant where she shared her experience in crafting her own “Dungeons & Dragons” adventure. She delved into her character creation methods, highlighted crucial themes and aspects she wanted to incorporate, and provided guidance for Dungeon Masters running “The Malady of Minarrh” smoothly. Additionally, Bhimani hinted at future plans to create and publish more “Dungeons & Dragons” books, aligning with Road to Ithaka Press’s aim to bring readers on an epic voyage.

The Malady of Minarrh Blends Classic Dungeons and Dragons Adventures With Modern Themes

In the process of crafting “The Malady of Minarrh”, Anjali Bhimani aimed to design an experience akin to many classic adventures she recalled from her early days of playing Dungeons & Dragons, while incorporating aspects of contemporary life as well. This narrative is intended for play spanning two to three sessions and explores themes such as religious extremism, the struggle between outcasts and their communities, the hazards of theocracy, and the potency of love and acceptance even in the most challenging circumstances.

She shared that she based the intricate ensemble of Non-Player Characters (NPCs) in “The Malady of Minarrh” on her own experiences, which include acting, playing Dungeons and Dragons, and serving as a Dungeon Master. She detailed her character creation method as follows:

I often ponder: “What could potentially be their vulnerability? Is there a strength of theirs that might be overdone or excessively valued, causing them more harm than good? What battles do they face externally, and what internal conflicts do they grapple with?

“There Are No Wrong Answers”: Anjali Bhimani’s Advice for Dungeon Masters

Bhimani suggested to aspiring Dungeon Masters planning to run the Malady of Minarrh with their gaming groups that they should view the adventure module more as “guidelines” than strict, unchangeable rules. She encouraged them to modify it according to their needs, such as merging it with ongoing campaigns or using NPCs from Minarrh even after the story concludes.

She advised Dungeon Masters to view themselves as “providers of entertainment,” emphasizing that they should always prioritize making the players happy. In her words, the objective is to create an enjoyable experience for all involved. To Bhimani, an effective Dungeon Master understands their players and tailors the story based on what suits their group best, be it a heavier emphasis on roleplaying versus combat or the incorporation or omission of more mature themes.

I want everyone to feel secure, listened to, and to have had an enjoyable experience.
