Don’t expect to see an announcement about the rumored remake of Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag at Sony’s next State of Play event, according to a reliable source. While Ubisoft hasn’t officially confirmed the remake is in development, rumors have been circulating for a long time, leaving fans wondering when it will be revealed. Unfortunately, it seems an announcement won’t be coming this month.
Talk of a remake for Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag started in 2023 when Kotaku reported that Ubisoft was beginning work on it. Since then, more and more signs have pointed to the project’s existence, though Ubisoft hasn’t officially confirmed it yet. The original game came out in October 2013 for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, followed shortly after by releases on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. It was praised for combining the traditional Assassin’s Creed gameplay—like climbing and stealth—with exciting ship combat, making a remake one of the most eagerly awaited games from Ubisoft.
Rumored Black Flag Remake Apparently Won’t Be at PlayStation’s State of Play
Okay, so everyone’s been buzzing about a possible PlayStation State of Play this month, and a lot of us were hoping that’s where we’d finally get to see the Black Flag Remake. But the usually reliable insider, Shinobi602, quickly dashed those hopes with a simple “Nah.” He clarified that Ubisoft isn’t delaying the game, and they actually have both a reveal date and a release date planned. He just says it’s “not time yet” to show us anything. Thankfully, he finished by saying the reveal isn’t too far away, which is a huge relief! I’m really hoping that means we’ll get some news in the next few months – I’ve been waiting for this remake for ages!
Despite recent cancellations at Ubisoft, including the planned Prince of Persia remake, it appears the Black Flag Remake is still in development. However, the project has been delayed. While it was previously expected to release as early as March, a new release date hasn’t been announced.
Despite not being officially announced, a rating revealed the remake will likely be called Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced, a title Ubisoft playfully hinted at with a meme last month. With more and more evidence appearing – including a possible Collector’s Edition statue discovered by fans – it’s becoming obvious that Ubisoft hasn’t done a good job keeping this remake a secret. However, given the company’s recent internal changes, it’s wise to be cautious about rumors, as Ubisoft has shown it’s willing to cancel projects even very close to release.
Fans hoping for a new multiplayer Assassin’s Creed game will be let down to hear that Assassin’s Creed League was canceled last month. The game was originally planned as downloadable content for Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, letting four players team up in feudal Japan. However, Ubisoft still intends to add multiplayer features to future Assassin’s Creed titles, though details on how they’ll do that are still unclear.
