Assassin’s Creed Invictus Gets Disappointing Update from Leaker

According to a trusted Ubisoft insider, the development of Assassin’s Creed Invictus is facing challenges. Early testing of the game hasn’t gone well, and it’s currently under review. There’s a real possibility the game could be delayed or even canceled.

During the September 2022 Ubisoft Forward event, Ubisoft officially announced Assassin’s Creed Invictus. The announcement was part of a plan for several new games, including Assassin’s Creed Mirage and Shadows, which have already been released. Ubisoft described Assassin’s Creed Invictus as a multiplayer game being developed by Ubisoft Montreal, the studio known for the popular medieval action game For Honor. Since the initial announcement, Ubisoft hasn’t shared many further details about the project.

Assassin’s Creed Invictus Latest Playtest Was Reportedly ‘Terrible’

Reports suggest that Assassin’s Creed Invictus was initially planned for release in 2025, but was then delayed to 2026. Now, even that 2026 date might be pushed back. YouTuber j0nathan, who often shares information about Ubisoft games, recently posted about a playtest for the game. He shared a screenshot of an official-looking invitation to a PC-only playtest held on April 30th. According to a source, the playtest was significantly flawed.

AC Invictus Could Reportedly Slip Out of 2026, or Worse

In the same post, j0nathan confirmed rumors that Assassin’s Creed Invictus was aiming for a 2026 release. However, he also stated the game is currently in rough shape and could be delayed or even canceled. It’s unknown if this assessment comes from inside information – which j0nathan sometimes shares – or is simply his opinion. Either way, the report suggests the game isn’t progressing as smoothly as Ubisoft had hoped after approximately four years of work.

Okay, so j0nathan shared a sneak peek of an email, and it’s getting me so hyped! It looks like all those rumors about the next Assassin’s Creed game, Invictus, being focused on competitive multiplayer are true! The email calls it a completely new PvP experience within the Assassin’s Creed world. It mentions a playtest scheduled for April 30th, but it’s a little unclear if that was just in France and Canada, or if it happened elsewhere too. We don’t know much about how they picked the testers, either. Usually, Ubisoft lets fans sign up to be playtesters, but so far, they haven’t opened up any pre-registration for Invictus. I’m really hoping they’ll let us sign up soon!

Reports from reliable sources like j0nathan suggest that the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Invictus will be similar to the popular game Fall Guys. Fall Guys, released in 2020, is a fast-paced, multiplayer game where players compete in silly obstacle courses, aiming to be the last one standing. While this lighthearted style might seem unusual for the typically serious Assassin’s Creed series, Ubisoft has explored similar territory before. Assassin’s Creed Rebellion, a mobile game released in 2018, already demonstrated that the franchise can handle a more playful approach, even featuring cute, simplified character designs.
