Atomfall Exploration Difficulty Modes
In Atomfall, the challenge level differs from many other games in an interesting manner. Like most games, you can adjust settings such as easy, normal, hard, and extremely difficult. However, it offers additional complexity beyond these standard options.
Furthermore, Rebellion Developments implemented modifications allowing for tailored adjustments to certain gaming elements.
In simple terms, Atomfall offers an immersive open-world adventure combining survival, crafting, first-person shooter (FPS), and role-playing game (RPG) elements. This means you can customize key aspects of the game, such as combat style, exploration, and survival tactics, to your preference.
How to Change Atomfall’s Difficulty

Upon launching a fresh round of Atomfall, you’ll encounter a selection of five difficulty levels. Each level features a unique blend of combat, exploration, and survival challenges, with varying intensities.
Mode | Combat | Survival | Exploration | Description |
---|---|---|---|---|
Sightseer | ❌ None | ❌ None | ❌ Minimal | Low-pressure mode focused entirely on narrative. Next to no combat, survival, or tough exploration. |
Investigator | ❌ Light | ❌ Light | ✅ Challenging | Emphasizes exploration and mystery-solving. Easier combat and survival elements. |
Brawler | ✅ Challenging | ❌ Light | ❌ Light | If you’re looking to test your skills in combat, this is the mode for you. There’s less onus on survival and exploration, but enemies will be challenging. |
Survivor | ✅ Standard | ✅ Standard | ✅ Standard | The default, recommended setting for Atomfall offers a challenge in combat, survival, and exploration. |
Veteran | 🔥 Intense | 🔥 Intense | 🔥 Intense | Everything is turned up to 11, offering an unforgiving, intense experience. I hope you’re ready. |
To tailor your gaming experience to your preference, navigate to the settings within the game’s pause menu, and under that, select the ‘Play Style’ option.
Atomfall Combat Difficulty Modes

Mode | Description |
---|---|
Assisted | This is the difficulty mode for those who want to focus on the game’s story and not worry about dealing with enemies looking to attack you. In fact, with this difficulty setting, unless you’re trespassing or attacking first, you will almost never aggro enemies. |
Casual | This is for those who want to experience that story and feel a little more involved with the gameplay. You’ll need to participate in combat more actively and deal with enemies, but it still takes a back seat to everything else. |
Challenging | This is the “default” normal setting for combat in Atomfall. This is the experience the developers intended. Enemies won’t be overly tough, but they aren’t a pushover here, either. |
Intense | If you want to die a lot, this is the combat difficulty mode for you. While this isn’t a survival difficulty option, you’ll need to use your best survival instincts to succeed. |
Atomfall Survival Difficulty Modes

Mode | Description |
---|---|
Assisted | If you want a more traditional FPS RPG experience, this is the option for you. You won’t have to worry about the survival aspect of Atomfall; instead, you can focus on everything else. |
Casual | This is still a laid-back survival experience, but you won’t be drowning in resources. You’ll need to be smart and resourceful. Think of it like a survival horror game: ammo and resources aren’t abundant, but they’re not exactly lacking. Just be smart with what you have. |
Challenging | Atomfall is a survival game, and its default difficulty reflects this. I hope you’re ready to learn to live off the land and be ripped off by traders while bartering goods. |
Intense | Are you Bear Grylls? If so, this is the experience for you. It’s rough out there, and Atomfall’s intense survival difficulty reflects this. Not for the faint of heart. |
Atomfall Exploration Difficulty Modes

Mode | Description |
---|---|
Assisted | One of the characteristics of Atomfall is the complete lack of hand-holding. You’re thrown into the open world, and your only sense of direction is what you’ve learned from picking up items or talking to characters. Assisted exploration adds in the typical HUD icons that can guide you in the right direction. |
Casual | The game won’t quite hold your hand every step of the way here, but you’ll still have the compass and waypoint markers enabled. It’s a good balance of both worlds, allowing you to explore and get the guidance needed to nudge you in the right direction. If you’re looking for something that helps you get your feet wet with exploration-first gameplay without jumping straight into the deep end, this is the option for you. |
Challenging | The game’s default experience gives you a compass, a handshake, and some well-wishes. There are no waypoints here, so you’ll have to rely on the information you discover on your leads to figure out where to go. This is where learning more about the zone and specific locations on the map comes in handy. |
Intense | No compass, no hints, no waypoints. Just you and the land. This is the most “realistic” option if you want to rough it. |
