Upon grasping the mouse and keyboard for the first time during the demonstration event, controlling Vex in Borderlands 4 felt instinctive to me, despite the novel traversal mechanics and Vex’s distinctive gameplay style. This iteration of Borderlands proves to be the most challenging yet, but the developers encouraged me persistently to tackle even tougher challenges, asserting that I was capable due to my past performance in Borderlands. Part of this confidence stemmed from my overall familiarity with the series, while also having prior experience with Vault Hunters akin to Vex, allowing me an advantage when it came to understanding her playstyle once the game was officially released.

Back in 1999, the horrific Columbine High School shootings significantly shaped America’s perspective on mass shootings. It was often pointed out that the shooters had a fondness for id Software’s first-person shooter game, “Doom.” This tragic event took the lives of 13 individuals, most being fellow students like myself. Since then, video games have frequently been a topic of debate in conversations surrounding gun violence.

After the highly praised launch of Halo Infinite in December 2021, the game included 10-level battle passes for two years. Later in October 2023, during Season 05: Reckoning, developer 343 Industries updated this idea by renaming them as Operations, each containing 20-level battle passes.

To get to the Memorium, players initially need to navigate to Mount Fay. Upon arrival at this location, head towards the mountain’s summit to obtain the Double Jump skill. The ascent to the peak is challenging and demands the use of the Clawline ability. This capability can be found on the eastern side of Underworks.

The game Hollow Knight: Silksong is influenced by another style of gaming as well. Games like Demon’s Souls and Dark Souls, which started the “Souls-like” genre – third-person action games known for their intricate mechanics – have significantly impacted the conventions and success of Hollow Knight and its sequel.

There are clear similarities, such as the use of a checkpoint system similar to bonfires and the mechanic of running past fallen enemies. However, there are also less overt connections, like the dark and depressing world filled with characters who are gradually losing their sanity.

Although Hollow Knight: Silksong might not have the exact same combat mechanics as other Souls-likes, it still offers a challenging experience, focusing on boss battles that require players to learn attack patterns and dodge effectively using I-frames (after certain upgrades).

However, there’s at least one area where Hollow Knight: Silksong truly shines, not just compared to its predecessors, but also to some of the best games in the Souls-like genre.
