In the game Avowed, the protagonist, known as the Envoy, is resurrected after being killed. His new objective is to track down the person responsible for his death. After conducting some investigations and speaking with a few individuals, you uncover that a band of rebels, headed by an individual named Ygwulf, were the masterminds behind the assassination.

Just as one might expect after being revived from the dead, players infiltrate Ygwulf’s hidden lair, the bandits’ stronghold. Along the way, they encounter Ygwulf. A crucial choice awaits you, one with potential repercussions down the line.

Should You Spare Or Kill Ygwulf In Avowed?

Towards the conclusion of the An Untimely End main mission, players will reach a point where they must decide Ygwulf’s destiny. Prior to choosing an option, Ygwulf shares his motivation for the assassination. It is revealed that Ygwulf was striving for justice within Paradis, as he aimed to avenge the atrocities inflicted by the Steel Garrote – a group of soldiers under the command of the Inquisitor, who originated from Aedyr. These soldiers were responsible for terrible acts against the people of Paradis.

In a bizarre dream, Ygwulf encountered the Envoy, who was standing beneath the symbol of Aedyr, their feet transformed into tree roots entwined around adra. Interpreting this as a sinister omen, the Assassin believes it’s his duty to eliminate players. Here, you must decide whether to show mercy towards Ygwulf or take action against him.

Should You Spare Ygwulf In Avowed?

Should you manage to apologize for the Steel Garrote and persuade the assassin Ygwulf to spare your group, he’ll express gratitude and reward you with both Adra and 625 Currency.

Consequences

When you get back to Ambassador Falscen Hylgardback in Paradis, you can either claim that he escaped or admit that you let him go. In either case, he will be furious with the Envoy and launch into a lengthy reprimand, scolding the players for their mistake. To make matters worse, Inquisitor Lodwyn enters the scene, expressing deep displeasure about the situation. Eventually, everyone comes to terms with what has transpired and moves on to the next mission.

Additionally, upon departing from Paradis, one of Ygwulf’s followers will give you a message they shared with the rebels. This note asserts that the Envoy is not to be seen as an adversary, and under no circumstances are the rebels to engage in attacks against you.

During the Food Theft mission in Avowed, located within Emerald Stair, it is revealed that certain followers of Ygwulf resorted to stealing crops from farmers due to food scarcity. If you have shown mercy towards their leader, Ygwulf, and successfully negotiate with them, they will surrender the crops peacefully. Some members may attack as you exit, but their leader will aid you in this encounter.

Should You Kill Ygwulf In Avowed?

In another scenario, the Messenger may dismiss Ygwulf’s argument and end his life. Plundering his corpse will yield materials, currency, adra, and even his armor. The Blackwing Armor, upon acquisition, boosts a player’s Stealth Attack Damage by 30% and Movement Speed by 25% when crouching.

Consequences

After completing my mission, I headed back to the Ambassador, hoping he’d appreciate my efforts. To my delight, he was overjoyed with our success and graciously rewarded me with a generous 1,500 Currency! As if that wasn’t enough, Inquisitor Lodwyn couldn’t hide his satisfaction and admiration for the Envoy’s prowess. What an incredible day in the gaming world!

If Ygwulf proves challenging for you, let him go unscathed to sidestep the battle. Instead, disclose his whereabouts to the Ambassador, and his people will handle the situation further.

In the Emerald Stair game world, when I’m tackling the Food Theft quest, it’s clear that the rebels aren’t exactly understanding or merciful. If we’re not careful, they could stir up some serious strife between us players and the local farmers, potentially leading to some unwanted complications in our gaming adventure.
