- Ultra Instinct Goku appears across many Dragon Ball games with varied implementations and strengths.
- FighterZ, Xenoverse 2, and Sparking! Zero offer Ultra Instinct as DLC or unlockable, strong but skill-dependent.
- Mobile and card games add Ultra Instinct via limited events or gacha.
Man, I’ll never forget the first time I saw Goku go Super Saiyan on Toonami – it was epic! And it just kept getting crazier from there. Through all the different Dragon Ball sagas, he finally hit his ultimate form in Dragon Ball Super: Ultra Instinct. There are a few stages of it, but basically, Ultra Instinct turns Goku into a literal god. It’s insane!
Goku’s Ultra Instinct form has shown up in several video games, and the quality of its implementation varies. While Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot doesn’t officially include it, PC players can add it through modifications. You can also play as Ultra Instinct Goku in Fortnite. But let’s take a look at which games feature Ultra Instinct Goku as a playable character.
Dragon Ball FighterZ
Still The Best
As a fighting game fan, I gotta say, Dragon Ball FighterZ is seriously one of the best 2D fighters out there, especially if you’re into the Dragon Ball Z anime – it really captures the look and feel of the show. Since it came out in 2018, the developers, Arc System Works, have added a ton of characters, but honestly, a lot of them are just different versions of Goku!
Goku received a powerful new ‘Ultra Instinct’ form as part of the Season 3 downloadable content. While it usually costs $5 to unlock on most platforms, the price sometimes drops. As you’d expect, this version of Goku is incredibly strong, but still beatable with enough skill.
Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero
3D FighterZ
Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero is the newest installment in the Dragon Ball game series, and its latest fighting game. It’s a departure from the 2D style of Dragon Ball FighterZ, and instead takes inspiration from the popular Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi games originally released on the PlayStation 2.
Unlike in *Dragon Ball FighterZ*, the Ultra Instinct Goku character in *Sparking! Zero* isn’t something you have to buy separately. Instead, you unlock him by playing the game – it’s similar to how you earn characters in many fighting games. Although he’s very strong, this version of Goku isn’t quite as overwhelmingly powerful as he is in the anime series.
Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2
A Time-Traveling Epic
Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 is an action role-playing game, similar to the first game, that involves traveling through time. In it, you play as a character who must correct problems in the Dragon Ball timeline by participating in famous battles and changing their results.
Goku’s Ultra Instinct form wasn’t available when *Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2* first came out. It was added later as part of the Extra DLC Pack 2, which usually costs $10. However, if you have a Game Pass subscription, the DLC is currently available at a discounted price. This upgrade gives Goku the ability to automatically dodge attacks, and he also gained a powerful new move called the Divine Kamehameha.
Dragon Ball: The Breakers
Surviving The Blasts
Dragon Ball: The Breakers is a unique multiplayer survival game. Players pick a survivor and can temporarily transform into iconic Dragon Ball heroes using a feature called Dragon Change. The game features a wide variety of characters, and recently added Goku’s Ultra Instinct transformation with the release of Season 8.
I’m really excited about the new stuff in Dragon Ball: The Breakers! We’re in Season 9 now, and Ultra Instinct was just added. You can actually buy the boost for Goku with real money if you want it right away, or grind for the in-game currency to unlock it – though that takes a bit! The game is tough, like most survival multiplayer games, but getting a power-up like Ultra Instinct Goku seriously helps your team win against those super strong villains like Cell and Frieza. It makes a huge difference!
Super Dragon Ball Heroes: World Mission
From Arcades To Consoles
Dragon Ball Heroes was an arcade game first released in Japan in 2011. Players collected cards and used them to battle against each other in the arcade machines, similar to Yu-Gi-Oh!, but without the elaborate 3D monster summons. Originally only available in Japan, a newer version of the game was later released for Nintendo Switch and PC.
In *Super Dragon Ball Heroes: World Mission*, you build a team of heroes and engage in tactical battles, recreating iconic moments from the Dragon Ball series and tackling brand new challenges. The game has been expanded with updates that include missions where you can witness Goku’s powerful Ultra Instinct form, such as Universe Mission 1 and Big Bang Mission 7. However, experiencing Ultra Instinct Goku in *Super Dragon Ball Heroes: World Mission* differs from other games; it’s generally a more observational experience rather than actively controlling him.
Dragon Ball Z: Dokkan Battle
A Free-To-Play Puzzle Fighter

Dragon Ball Z: Dokkan Battle is a mobile game initially available only for Android in North America, though an iOS version was released in Japan. Like many free-to-play anime-based mobile games, it offers a familiar experience.
Players collect cards featuring iconic heroes to build teams and then watch them battle automatically. The game is constantly being improved, and special events offer a chance to obtain a powerful Ultra Instinct Goku, though getting him requires a lot of dedication, good luck, and significant playtime.
Dragon Ball Legends
Legendarily Obscure

I’ve been playing Dragon Ball Legends, and it’s pretty new compared to Dokkan Battle. Honestly, the games aren’t *that* different, but Legends lets you get a little more hands-on during battles if you want to. Just like in Dokkan Battle, Ultra Instinct Goku shows up for limited-time events. It’s not quite the same as controlling Goku in a real fight – tapping to use moves just isn’t as awesome – but it’s a fun way to play when I’m on the go.
If you’re a big fan of Ultra Instinct Goku, you likely don’t *need* to play mobile games like *Dragon Ball Z: Dokkan Battle* or *Dragon Ball Legends* unless you’re determined to collect everything. While these games are okay for *Dragon Ball* fans in general, the random nature of how you unlock characters can be annoying. You’ll probably have a more satisfying experience with a traditional *Dragon Ball* game on a console.
