This article contains spoilers for the One Piece series.
Despite some ongoing issues, the *One Piece* anime remains incredibly popular, especially after a significant improvement in quality during the Wano arc. It’s been consistently good for a weekly series. However, a major problem continues to frustrate fans: frequent, often unexplained breaks. Another break is coming up in late September, leaving fans waiting from September 28th to October 12th for the next episode, One Piece 1146.
One Piece Anime is Going on Break After Episode 1145
- The Last Episode Drops on September 28
- The Anime Returns October 12
The One Piece anime took a six-month break from late 2024 to early 2025. Since then, it’s been taking roughly one week off each month. During these breaks, either a new episode isn’t released, or a special recap episode featuring Chopper is shown, usually covering various unrelated topics.
The final episode for September will still be released on September 28, 2025, as planned. After that, the series will take a two-week break, as it usually does. So, instead of a new episode arriving on October 5th, viewers can expect episode 1146 on October 12th.
Why The One Piece Anime Takes So Many Breaks
Pacing Could Be One Reason
As a huge One Piece fan, I’ve noticed a lot more breaks in the release schedule lately, and I know a lot of us are wondering why! Unfortunately, there hasn’t been any official explanation for all these interruptions. It’s especially strange because breaks were pretty uncommon *before* the six-month pause we had a while back.
Of course, fans are free to speculate about why there are breaks in the release schedule. One possibility is that the animators need extra time, especially with the recent improvements to the animation quality. Another reason could be to give the author, Oda, more time to get ahead of the anime’s pace – which has become harder to do, as he’s been taking roughly one to two weeks off each month.
One Piece Chapter 1159 is scheduled for release this week, as usual on Sundays. While it becomes available in Japan at midnight on Monday (JST), most international fans will be able to read it on August 31st. The official release date is September 7, 2025, and the chapter will be available to read for free on Manga Plus.
