Beware of Tomodachi Life Knock-Offs on Google Play Store

If you’re a fan of Tomodachi Life, be careful! There are fake apps on Google Play trying to look like the real game. Some players hoping to find a version for phones or tablets (other than the Nintendo Switch, where it’s only available) have been tricked by these apps.

Many gamers want more exclusive games for consoles like Xbox and PlayStation, but there’s a problem. Because Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony always have current consoles available, most gamers can only afford one or two. This leaves them feeling frustrated when they see exclusive games they can’t play. It’s likely that unofficial apps are targeting these gamers.

Rip-Offs of Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream Appear On Google Play

Fake versions of the Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream game have shown up on the Google Play Store. These apps, called “My Tomodachi Dream Life” and “Tomodachi Life Living the Dream,” are copying artwork and promotional images from the official Nintendo Switch game. Nintendo has no connection to these apps, and players should not download them.

Most gamers would probably spot these fake apps immediately, but unfortunately, many people haven’t. As of today, the two apps have been downloaded over 50,000 times each, likely by children or people unfamiliar with gaming who didn’t realize the game is only available on Nintendo Switch. What’s even worse is that these fake apps offer in-app purchases, costing anywhere from $9.99 to $54.99. Hopefully, anyone who downloaded them quickly figured out the mistake and didn’t spend any money.

It’s surprising that these two apps have remained available on the Google Play Store since mid-May 2026. Nintendo is well-known for strongly protecting its copyrights and frequently takes legal action against infringers, so it’s probably only a matter of time before these games are removed. It’s disappointing that Google Play didn’t identify the copyrighted images and titles and prevent their release. These publishers aren’t just offering these games, either – one of them has also uploaded a clear copycat of The Sims 4.

Good news for Nintendo Switch owners: Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream is available on the original Switch, so the over 155 million people who have one can play it. If you’re looking for a similar game on Android, Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp Complete is a good option. While they aren’t exactly the same, both games are known for their relaxing atmosphere and cute, cartoon-like graphics.
