Fuse’s That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slimenovel series originally ran from February 2013 to January 2016 on the self-publishing platform Shosetsuka ni Naro. The light novel adaptation, with illustrations by Mitz Vah, was first published in 2014 and currently stands at 21 volumes. A manga adaptation with illustrations by Taiki Kawakami began serialization in Kodansha’s Monthly Shonen Sirius in 2015 and has amassed 27 tankobon volumes so far.
For years, various manga adaptations have sprung up in response to the success of the original series, alongside its popular anime version, an ONA, and a movie released in 2022. The anime adaptation of “That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime” premiered during the Fall season of 2018. The initial season consisted of 24 episodes, produced by Studio 8bit. Yasuhito Kikuchi (known for “IS: Infinite Stratos” and “Saint Seiya”) served as director, while Kazuyuki Fudeyasu (“Black Clover,” “Shangri-La Frontier”) handled the script, with music provided by Elements Garden. From season 2 onwards, Atsushi Nakayama (“KonoSuba: God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World! – Legend of Crimson,” “Absolute Duo”) took over as director, and Toshizo Nemoto (“Steins;Gate,” “Durarara!!”) oversaw the series composition for season 3.
In the Spring of 2021, a spin-off anime titled “The Daily Life of a Slime: When I Was Reincarnated as a Slime” made its debut. This manga, sharing the same name and featuring artwork by Shiba, started publication in Monthly Shonen Sirius from March 2018. Additionally, an original anime film, titled “When I Got Reincarnated as a Slime: The Movie – Crimson Link”, was launched on November 25, 2022. This movie was helmed by director Kikuchi, with Fudeyasu adapting the original story penned by Fuse.
Yen Press acquires the rights to translate the light novel spin-off manga titled “That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime: The Ways of the Monster Nation” into English. This manga, along with “The Slime Diaries: That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime“, “That Time I Got Reincarnated (Again!) as a Workaholic Slime“, and “That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime: Trinity in Tempest” spin-offs are published by Kodansha USA.
