A large bank, with over a billion dollars in assets, will pay $1.5 million to people whose data was compromised in a recent security breach.
SouthState Bank, a Florida bank, will create a $1.5 million fund to compensate people affected by a data breach that happened on February 7, 2024, according to the official settlement administrator.
SouthState Bank recently experienced a security breach where someone gained unauthorized access to its computer systems. This resulted in the exposure of confidential information for some current and former customers.
The data potentially compromised included personal details like names, birthdates, addresses, phone numbers, financial account details, and Social Security numbers.
People affected by the data breach can receive up to $3,500 if they can prove they experienced losses, like fraud related to identity theft.
Victims of the data breach will receive partial payments based on the total number of claims filed. The SouthState Bank settlement also includes free credit monitoring and identity theft protection, including insurance against fraud, for everyone covered by the settlement.
If you’re eligible for payment, you must file a claim by June 15th. The court will give final approval to the settlement on June 22nd. If you want to object to the settlement or exclude yourself from it, you need to submit a request stating your wishes by May 15th.
SouthState Bank has settled the class action lawsuit filed after the recent data breach, but maintains it did nothing wrong. They disagree with all of the claims made in the lawsuit.
