Binance Co-Founder In Damage Control Mode Over Racial Meme Message

As a researcher with a background in cultural awareness and community engagement, I find the recent controversy surrounding Binance’s offensive post deeply concerning. The image in question, which featured an insensitive meme from Family Guy, was shared on Binance’s official X account and immediately sparked outrage within the online crypto community.

Once more, Binance finds itself at the center of controversy, but this time not due to regulatory issues. Instead, the digital trading community has expressed outrage over the exchange’s latest move concerning a recent post on their official X account.

The Controversial Binance Post

Based on Wu Blockchain’s report, an image from Family Guy was at the center of controversy. In this picture, Peter Griffin is shown sorting individuals based on their skin tones with the help of a color card.

As a crypto investor, I’ve noticed that the recently posted image on Binance has sparked controversy within the community. Some have criticized Binance for what they perceive as promoting racism. This is particularly disturbing because Binance prides itself on being an inclusive platform where people of all races come together to trade cryptocurrencies. The use of such content could be seen as discriminatory and offensive to many.

Yi He, Co-founder and Chief Customer Service Officer at Binance, promptly issued an apology on behalf of the company for the inappropriate social media post. She clarified that the team responsible had recently joined and were not aware of the offensive connotations of the image.

Yi He explained in her apology that the social media team is new and hasn’t acquired the necessary cultural knowledge yet. Upon encountering a meme image within the community, they failed to grasp its significance and consequently shared it on X.

We deeply regret the error! Our new social media team might not have the necessary cultural context to appreciate the meme that was shared in the community. Unaware of its significance, they went ahead and posted it on X. This was a mistake on our part, and we will take immediate steps to rectify the situation.

Proactive Executive Communication

The Binance exchange executive made a commitment to the online community that they will implement measures to prevent similar controversial posts from happening again on their platform.

As a researcher studying online interactions, I’ve noticed that in response to Yi He’s post, some community members acknowledged the explanation and apology with gratitude. They voiced their confidence in the platform’s ability to improve from this experience and vowed to keep the lines of communication open for future exchanges.

The Chief Customer Service Officer has received praise for taking initiative in addressing user concerns, such as when Yi He used her official X account to warn her social media audience and the larger cryptocurrency community about a fraudster attempting to scam people.

Based on her statement, an impostor managed to swindle a user out of 60 Ether. She strongly advised users to stay cautious and be wary of suspicious links that could potentially be used for scams.
