Michael Saylor, a Bitcoin proponent and the co-founder/Chairman of MicroStrategy, has voiced his intention to boost “smart borrowing” opportunities for the company’s stockholders, as MicroStrategy carries on with its plan of making substantial investments in the market’s foremost cryptocurrency.

MicroStrategy’s Shares Soar 500% In 2024

During a recent interview on Bloomberg Television, Saylor emphasized that MicroStrategy owns convertible securities totaling $7.2 billion. Under advantageous trading circumstances, around $4 billion of these securities function similarly to equity.

He pointed out that their trades seem to have a near-total equivalence (around 100%) to the behavior of equities, suggesting a robust link between the convertible bonds’ performance and the company’s stock market trends.

This year, MicroStrategy has become a major figure in the world of cryptocurrencies, aggressively working towards a daring strategy to gather an impressive $42 billion solely for purchasing and holding Bitcoin.

In 2024, the company’s stocks experienced a dramatic increase of almost 500%, far exceeding Bitcoin’s growth by approximately 150% over the same timeframe. This impressive performance can be partly attributed to the company’s regular announcements about buying billions of dollars worth of Bitcoins every Monday for six consecutive weeks.

These actions have significantly increased MicroStrategy’s share prices, yet they’ve stirred doubts about the durability of this high-risk investment approach in the long run.

Investors specializing in hedge fund strategies like convertible arbitrage have shown interest in the company’s debt securities. Convertible arbitrage is a method where these investors purchase the bonds while simultaneously selling the underlying shares short. This increased demand has aided MicroStrategy in issuing $6.2 billion worth of convertibles this year, thereby enhancing its financial borrowing capacities.

Despite concerns about the viability of its investment approach, MicroStrategy’s market capitalization has soared past $90 billion, leading to its inclusion in the Nasdaq 100 Index at the end of trading on Friday. 

Reaching this milestone might prompt tech-focused investment funds to buy approximately $2 billion worth of shares, as suggested by predictions from Bloomberg Intelligence.

Saylor Open To Crypto Advisory Role

Additionally, it was disclosed during the interview that Saylor has been proactively interacting with officials from President-elect Donald Trump’s administration. This suggests his readiness to participate in conversations aimed at formulating beneficial digital asset policies.

Saylor expressed his willingness to join a digital asset advisory group, should he be asked, following the latest announcement of David Sacks, an ex-PayPal executive, becoming the inaugural “White House AI and Cryptocurrency Advisor” under President Trump.
