Ah, “Uptober” – the month where Bitcoin ETFs apparently decided to go on a shopping spree, bringing in a staggering $2.71 billion in weekly inflows. How delightful for institutional investors! They’ve certainly found their new favorite plaything. It seems that money simply can’t help itself but flow into BTC. Why, it’s almost as though they believe in digital gold… or maybe they just enjoy playing with fire.
According to the ever-accurate data from SoSoValue (yes, that name really rolls off the tongue), Bitcoin ETFs have amassed a jaw-dropping $158.96 billion in assets under management. That’s nearly 7% of Bitcoin’s total market cap. Who needs gold, right? Bitcoin ETFs are the new shiny object in town, and everyone’s getting a piece.
“Capital keeps flowing into BTC,” says Vincent Liu, chief investment officer at Kronos Research, who sounds like he’s had one too many cups of espresso this morning. “Allocators double down on the digital gold conviction trade.” Oh, Vincent, you do have a way with words. It’s almost as though the market is following the advice of that brilliant philosopher, “If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em.” Well, liquidity is flowing, and momentum is… well, let’s just say it’s taking shape. In other words, *here comes the avalanche*.
The week’s crowning achievement came on Monday, when spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded an eye-watering $1.21 billion in net inflows. That’s the second-largest single-day inflow since these products were first launched. And Tuesday wasn’t exactly a letdown, either, with $875.61 million flooding in like a stampede of bulls with wallets full of dreams.
Bitcoin ETFs See $4.5 Million Outflow (Yes, It’s Not All Sunshine and Rainbows)
But wait, not everything is roses and Bitcoin rewards. On Friday, Bitcoin ETFs experienced a modest $4.5 million net outflow-oh, the horror-caused by market jitters. You see, President Donald Trump (remember him?) decided to impose a 100% tariff on imports from China. Naturally, that caused a bit of a stir in the crypto pond.
BlackRock’s IBIT was the show-off of the week, leading the charge with $74.2 million in daily inflows and $65.26 billion in cumulative totals. Bravo, BlackRock! Meanwhile, Fidelity’s FBTC and Grayscale’s GBTC had to settle for a bit of a nap, recording outflows of $10.18 million and $19.21 million, respectively. Well, not every product can be a rock star, can it?
“Trump’s tariff threat looks more like a negotiation tactic than a policy pivot,” said Liu, who seems to have a flair for political analysis. “Classic pressure play,” he added. Markets may flinch, but Liu suggests that “smart money” knows how to play the game. Because why not take advantage of a little macro noise when your conviction remains, well, unchanged? Ah, the sweet sound of stability amidst chaos.
“Uptober” Sparks ETF Rush Amid 31 Filings (Are We Ready for the Tsunami?)
But the real excitement lies in the flood of filings. Over the past two months, a staggering 31 crypto ETF applications have been submitted to the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Twenty-one of those arrived in the first eight days of October alone. If that’s not a rush, I don’t know what is.
Analysts, of course, are salivating at the thought of the “floodgates” opening. Bloomberg’s James Seyffart has hinted that there’s an impressive collection of nearly 100 crypto-related products waiting for their moment in the sun. And as of late August, they’re all waiting for SEC decisions like hopeful contestants on a game show. Will they win the prize, or will they be left to sulk in the shadows? Only time will tell. Stay tuned for the next thrilling chapter!
