‘Black Swan’ Author Taleb Blasts ChatGPT’s Fundamental AI Mechanism

As an experienced analyst, I’ve closely followed the developments in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) and its applications. Nassim Nicholas Taleb, a renowned scholar and author, has once again raised concerns about OpenAI’s ChatGPT. His criticisms echo those made earlier this month and join a chorus of voices expressing similar sentiments. I believe that Taleb’s criticisms are valid, given the potential risks associated with AI-generated responses, especially when they lack accuracy or provide misinformation.

Nassim Nicholas Taleb, the renowned intellectual and best-selling author of works such as “The Black Swan” and “Antifragile,” persists in voicing his criticisms against OpenAI’s prominent creation, ChatGPT.

I’ve noticed that Taleb, among other notables, has raised similar criticisms against GhatGPT as he did in his previous critique, which was voiced earlier this month.

Taleb and Ripple CTO slam ChatGPT and AI overall

As a crypto investor and avid user of AI models, I’ve come across Nassim Taleb’s criticism of ChatGPT for providing nonsensical answers at times. However, not everyone in the comments section shares the same viewpoint. Some users argue that ChatGPT is merely a text generator, while others question why Taleb doesn’t criticize other AI models like Microsoft’s Copilot. I find myself pondering these perspectives and trying to gain a deeper understanding of each argument.

As a crypto investor, I’ve come across some strong opinions lately. Nassim Taleb, the “Antifragile” author, didn’t engage in a recent discussion about artificial intelligence that I saw. However, I was intrigued by David Schwartz’s perspective on this topic. As one of Ripple’s top execs and an XRP Ledger co-creator, Schwartz voiced his criticisms directly on his Twitter account (@Sgwebb).

As a crypto investor, I’ve come across plenty of AI-generated content on Quora, some of which leaves much to be desired. This particular example was so poorly written that I felt compelled to bring it up.

Schwartz didn’t specifically criticize ChatGPT in his tweet. Instead, he expressed concern about the prevalence of artificial intelligence (AI) on Quora, which he described as being filled with low-quality, AI-generated content. He supported his statement by providing examples of such questions from the platform.

Edward Snowden’s crucial ChatGPT warning

Expert: Edward Snowden, the famed American whistleblower and ex-analyst from the National Security Agency (NSA), expressed his perspective on OpenAI’s recent decision. The organization revealed that it had recruited Paul Nakasone, a former NSA director, to join its board of directors.

Snowden cautioned his X audience against utilizing ChatGPT due to his belief that the ex-NSA chief’s involvement (with Snowden being notoriously critical of this agency for reportedly intercepting private messages and monitoring users) could make using ChatGPT potentially risky.

Elon Musk criticized Apple this month for announcing their cooperation deal with OpenAI and integrating ChatGPT on the iOS level on all of its devices. Musk tweeted that he will have to ban all Apple-made devices in his companies, including bans for visitors to carry them in – they will have to leave the Apple gadgets as they enter office buildings. The tech magnate believes that ChatGPT will collect user data to store it on OpenAI servers for further illegal use.
