So, here we are, talking about BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF (IBIT), a little baby in the world of finance, but already making more money than most of us will in a lifetime. And it’s only been out for less than two years. 🤱💰
According to a recent post by Bloomberg analyst Eric Balchunas on X, IBIT needs to grow its assets by a mere $10 billion to become the top revenue-generating ETF at BlackRock. That’s like saying, “Hey, just a few more pennies in the piggy bank, and we’re set!”
“IBIT is now the third-highest revenue-generating ETF for BlackRock out of 1,197 funds, and is only $9 billion away from being #1. Just another insane stat for a 1.5-year-old (literally an infant) ETF. Here’s the top 10 list for BlackRock (aside, how about the forgettable IWF at the top spot, who knew?).”
Based on Balchunas’s data, IBIT is already raking in an estimated $191 million per year with $76.314 billion in assets, charging investors a mere 25 basis points annually. If the fund’s assets grow by $9 billion, IBIT will generate about $213 million annually, enough to dethrone the current champion, IWF. 🏆
For those keeping score at home, BlackRock’s IWF, or iShares Russell 1000 Growth ETF, has been around since May 2000 and is currently generating $211 million in yearly revenue, charging 19 basis points per year. It’s like the old reliable car that just keeps chugging along, even if you can’t remember its name. 🚗
Meanwhile, the firm’s iShares MSCI EAFE ETF (EFA), which gives investors exposure to a broad range of equities in European, Australian, Asian, and Far Eastern markets, was launched in 2001 and is generating $207 million in revenue annually with an expense ratio of 0.32%. It’s the international flavor in a sea of domestic options. 🌍
As of Thursday’s close, IBIT is trading at $62.19. Not bad for a toddler, right? 🤷♂️
