BLEACH: Thousand-Year Blood War Part 3 NaNaNa Najahkoop’s Schrift, Explained

Key Takeaways

  • Najahkoop was one of few Sternritter to survive Yhwach’s powers removal, eager to stop Shinigami.
  • Schrift U enables ability The Underbelly to render enemies immobile & unconscious.
  • Despite powerful abilities, Najahkoop was underutilized in the war, wasted potential against enemies.

As a seasoned BLEACH fanatic with a penchant for Quincy lore and an uncanny ability to recall the finer details of each character’s abilities, I can’t help but feel a twinge of melancholy when reflecting on NaNaNa Najahkoop. Despite his lackluster impact on the grand scheme of things during the Protection of the Soul King Great War, this Quincy was undeniably unique in both appearance and powers.

Despite having minimal influence on the results of the “Protection of the Soul King Great War”, NaNaNa Najahkoop was one of the rare Sternritter who survived Yhwach’s compulsory stripping of their powers through Auswählen, a process that usually results in death. Regardless of the Quincy King abandoning him and other survivors, he persisted in attempting to prevent the ground Shinigami from discovering a way to reach the Soul King’s Palace.

In the TV series BLEACH: Thousand-Year Blood War, one particularly abrupt demise of a Quincy character stood out – it was quite unceremonious. Despite his untimely end, we managed to witness a snippet of his abilities. What special powers did NaNaNa Najahkoop possess by means of the Schrift U – The Underbelly?

Schrift U – The Underbelly

A Powerful Ability

Najahkoop bears a resemblance to an earlier incarnation of Kaname Tosen, the former captain of Squad 9, with spiky hair and an eye-covering mask. His mask is a sleek, orange heart-shaped surface that serves as the conduit for his signature ability, “The Underbelly.” By marking targets with his epithet letter, he can create a grid over their outline, allowing him to examine the composition of an enemy’s spiritual power (reiatsu) and identify and exploit its vulnerabilities using a technique called “Morphine Pattern.” This method allows him to amplify the discovered weaknesses until the enemy’s reiatsu is completely drained, causing them to become immobile and eventually unconscious. In episode 5 of BLEACH: Thousand-Year Blood War Part 3, Najahkoop successfully utilized this ability on Sōsuke Aizen, rendering him motionless for a full five minutes and even causing him to lose consciousness.

“What a moron. He really was fast asleep… I came here to see what kind of guy had taken out Mask De Masculine, and I found this guy snoring away without a care in the world. I figured it must be some kind of trap, so I monitored him carefully. But he seriously stayed asleep right until morning. Who could’ve guessed a guy would actually go to sleep right in the middle of enemy territory? Even so, his luck’s run out now. This is the first time I’ve ever “observed” an enemy for this long. You’re finished, Red Monkey.”

U For “The Underutilized”

Najahkoop’s Ability Could Have Greatly Devastated Soul Society

Currently, Aizen’s immense spiritual energy (reiatsu) is contained near his body thanks to technology developed by Captain Mayuri Kurotsuchi from the 12th Squadron. Yet, despite this containment, Aizen has grown stronger than he was at the time of his arrest. This makes it incomprehensible and mind-boggling to consider that Najahkoop’s power could still have such a significant impact on someone so dangerous, even after his powers were taken away following Auswahlen.

In the “Thousand-Year Blood War” arc, Najahkoop’s significant flaw lies in the fact that his ability to observe and analyze his enemies effectively is dependent on the amount of time he has spent observing them. Regrettably, this potential asset is underutilized throughout the story. If Najahkoop had been given more time to observe, his skill could have proven lethal against most opponents. Yet, even at full strength, he was overcome by Byakuya Kuchiki, a foe who had previously been near death at the hands of Sternritter F – The Fear, Äs Nödt.

Despite possessing power comparable to a Captain-level Shinigami and an ability that could immobilize someone as potent as Sōsuke Aizen, Najahkoop has had minimal screen time and influence on the events of the Soul King Protection War. In fact, even a character like Sternritter Y – Royd Lloyd, whose role was merely to impersonate Yhwach and distract the late former Captain-Commander Genryūsai Shigekuni Yamamoto during the Wandenreich’s invasion, had a more substantial impact. However, where Najahkoop falls short in impact, he compensates with his unyielding determination, having survived battles against an enraged Yamamoto, a revived Byakuya, the Auswahlen, and even a fatal blow from fellow Quincy Bazz-B. In Ryohgo Narita’s novels “BLEACH: Can’t Fear Your Own World”, NaNaNa Najahkoop, Candice Catnipp, and Meninas McAllon are experimental subjects of Mayuri Kurotsuchi at the Shinigami Research and Development Institute.
