Okay, so after the first two dev diaries, the team at Slitherine and Frag Games are really diving into what makes Bolt Action, well, Bolt Action! This latest dev diary focuses on the heart of the game – the turn order system. As a long-time fan of the tabletop game, I’m really interested to see how they’re translating that iconic mechanic into the digital version.
Bolt Action differs from many strategy games by using a unique activation system. Instead of taking turns moving units, each unit in your group adds a die to a central pool. A die is then randomly drawn, activating a unit – but you won’t know if it’s yours or your opponent’s! This continues until all dice are drawn, making each round unpredictable and different.
The Dev Diary 3 will deep dive into:
- The Bag: Friction and Tempo
- Officers: Snap to Action
- Digital Speed, Tabletop Tension
- Scaling the Battle
Exclusive Screenshots
Slitherine recently shared some early screenshots of their new game, and it looks fantastic!
