Borderlands Krieg Actor On Favorite Aspects of the Character and Series

As a lifelong gamer who’s seen his fair share of video game adaptations, I must admit, the upcoming Borderlands movie has me more pumped than a Vault Hunter on Eridian Mentasylum. After following this project since its announcement back in 2015, it feels like the day I finally get to meet my favorite looter-shooter pals on the big screen is almost here!

Approaching the final stretch, the highly anticipated Borderlands movie, in development for nearly a decade, is nearing completion. First announced in 2015, this live-action adaptation of Gearbox Software’s renowned looter-shooter series is helmed and co-written by Eli Roth (Cabin Fever, Inglourious Basterds), featuring an impressive ensemble cast on a thrilling and emotional odyssey through its eccentric and dystopian futuristic Western backdrop. With the big screen debut of beloved characters and locations from the Borderlands universe, fans can now experience their adventures in a whole new way.

In a conversation with Game Rant, actor Florian Munteanu (known for his roles in “Creed 3” and “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings”), who portrays psycho Krieg in the upcoming “Borderlands” movie adaptation, discussed his past involvement with the games, affection for the character, and how these elements shaped his on-screen portrayal of Krieg. He also acknowledged the deep connection fans have with “Borderlands”, explaining why the franchise has made such a lasting impression since its debut and remains relevant today.

Borderlands Actor Florian Munteanu Discusses What Makes His Character Krieg and the Series Great

Florian Munteanu Could See Himself in Krieg

Among the diverse and unusual characters in “Borderland”, Krieg stands out as one of the most intriguing, according to Munteanu. A fan of “Borderlands” himself, Munteanu shared that he had played the games before joining the film, and was instantly drawn to Krieg after he was introduced as a new Vault Hunter in the DLC for Borderlands 2. He found similarities between himself and Krieg’s appearance and other characteristics.

“After the release of the downloadable content for Borderlands 2, it’s no secret that he became my preferred character due to his captivating nature. There was a sense of familiarity in him – from his appearance, his madness, to every aspect of his persona.”

Florian Munteanu On What Makes Borderlands Special

When asked about his favorite aspects of the Borderlands series, Munteanu expressed his admiration for the distinctive comic book-like visuals and presentation, along with its unique blend of action and humor, which sets it apart as a remarkable collection.

“Upon the release of Borderlands, I recall feeling as though I’d never encountered anything quite like it. It evoked a sense similar to a Quentin Tarantino film, thanks to its distinctive blend of brutality and black humor. Its uniqueness and novelty are likely reasons for its remarkable popularity, since there’s no game quite like it.”

Munteanu pointed out that a significant factor contributing to the lasting appeal and success of Borderlands is that every character has a compelling backstory, which enables fans to form strong emotional connections with their favorites. This connection might even offer support during challenging periods in their lives.

He mentioned that he fully understands how much fans cherish and value the Borderlands series and its characters, and that opinions might differ about the film adaptations. Still, both longtime and new followers of the franchise will soon have the chance to watch Borderlands on the big screen, immersing themselves in Krieg and the other Vault Hunters’ adventures across Pandora in a grand cinematic experience.
