As a long-term investor in crypto and a follower of the industry news, I find Ryan Selkis’ recent actions deeply concerning. Selkis, the co-founder and former CEO of Messari, has made controversial statements on social media that have sparked controversy and criticism within the crypto community.
As a researcher studying the latest developments in the cryptocurrency industry, I came across the unexpected news that Ryan Selkis, the co-founder and CEO of Messari, has recently stepped down from his position following a contentious series of posts on social media platform X.
Messari’s Ryan Selkis Under Fire
The debate over Selkis arose following his declarations including, “I detest leftists with the intensity of a hundred suns. I’m not a Republican. I’m uniquely distinguished. War,” as well as voicing annoyance after an unsuccessful assassination attempt on the President.
In a now-removed message, Ryan Selkis expressed strong support for Donald Trump and threatened violence towards those opposing him, which drew criticism from numerous people and organizations, among them Adriano Feria.
Adriano Feria challenged the meaning behind Selkis’ statements, labeling them as provocative and potentially harmful acts that could be favorably received by enemies of the United States.
Selkis answered Feria, a writer specializing in Ethereum and cryptocurrencies, with the hope that Feria would reconsider her question, as she inquired about his citizenship status – whether he was an American citizen or merely held a green card.
Following his actions, Ryan Selkis became the focus of criticism from the crypto community, with many industry professionals indicating they planned to disassociate from Messari in the days to come.
Change Of Leadership
As a concerned crypto investor, I’ve noticed some unease growing among the community regarding certain matters related to Messari and its team. At first, Selkis reassured us that he would tackle these issues promptly. However, in a surprising turn of events, the team later announced that Selkis’ political stances and rhetoric had put their safety at risk, leading to his departure from the organization.
As a result, Ryan Selkis chose to relinquish his position as CEO at Messari. In the meantime, Eric Turner, who is the company’s Chief Revenue Officer and an original team member, will serve as interim CEO. Messari officially announced Selkis’ departure with this statement:
Recently, Ryan announced his intention to relinquish his CEO position at Messari, dedicating all his time instead to crypto policies and matters of personal significance. Messari’s current and future success is a testament to Ryan’s bold vision and unwavering commitment.
