Cardano Enters New Era Of Decentralized Governance: Foundation CEO

In a recent post on X, Frederik Gregaard, the CEO of the Cardano Foundation, discussed the upcoming developments toward a decentralized governing system. He highlighted the implementation of an interim constitution as a significant step forward in this process. This move comes before the expected Chang fork, which will usher in the Voltaire phase on the blockchain, characterized by community-led governance.

The Interim Constitution For Cardano

According to Gregaard’s declaration, the temporary constitution plays a pivotal part in guiding ADA towards complete decentralized administration. In simpler terms, “Cardano is on the brink of entering a new phase of decentralized governance. The final constitution is approaching, but before that, we need an interim constitution to serve as our foundation.”

Cardano is about to embark on a new chapter in its decentralized management. The final constitution is nearly ready, but before that, we’ll have an interim constitution. This lays the groundwork for our system. @Cardano_CF)

During this transitional phase, the temporary constitution is presented as a mirror of the international community’s values, setting guidelines for managing the intricacies of on-chain governance. According to Gregaard, the interim charter emphasizes “honesty, accessibility, and accountable decision-making” as its guiding principles, allowing every ADA owner an opportunity to influence the future direction.

One key aspect of Cardano’s proposed governance structure is its emphasis on inclusivity. According to Gregaard, “Cardano’s governance is designed with inclusion in mind. Every ADA holder, developer, and community member holds equal sway. They all have the rights, advantages, and duties that will be detailed in our interim constitution.” This method aims to level the playing field for decision-making, fostering a fair and balanced system where every investor has a voice.

In this governance setup, representatives from the community such as delegates (DReps), stake pool operators (SPOs), and members of a constitutional committee will play essential roles. This balanced system aims to reflect the community’s consensus, uphold the interim constitution, and protect the ecosystem by maintaining its integrity.

Chang Hard Fork And Voltaire Era

In Q2 2024, the anticipated Chang hard fork for Cardano signifies a major advancement in technology. This event will usher in the Voltaire era, which puts the power in the hands of ADA owners to engage in community governance through Cardano Improvement Proposals (CIPs) and Funding Proposals (FPs). With these tools, the community will be able to vote on essential software modifications, technical enhancements, and budget decisions from the platform’s treasury.

During this period, we’ll explore various experiments related to decentralized governance, the workings of democracy and consent, and bring Voltaire from theory to practice. (Cardano Foundation’s official website)

Moving forward, Gregaard announced intentions for extensive international involvement beginning in late 2024 through workshops and a constitutional convention for the ADA community. These platforms aim to grant the Cardano community substantial influence in shaping the governance structure. “The constitution will be a collective work of the Cardano community,” Gregaard emphasized, “I view it as a dynamic document that grows with our community.”

Through these initiatives, we demonstrate our dedication to creating a solid framework for overseeing Cardano’s blockchain operations. As expressed by Gregaard, “Cardano stands out as an exemplary model of effective blockchain governance. I look forward to your participation in the upcoming governance seminars.”

At press time, ADA traded at $0.461.
