As a dedicated researcher with extensive experience in the Cardano ecosystem, I can’t help but feel a sense of excitement and anticipation towards the upcoming Chang hard fork. This is a historic moment for the Cardano community, marking a crucial step forward in achieving decentralized on-chain governance.
Get ready for one of Cardano’s most significant updates – the upcoming Chang hard fork. A critical notice has been sent out to all node providers.
In a recent tweet, Intersect, a Cardano ecosystem organization, announced: “Upgrade time for Stake Pool Operators! Node 9.0.0 is now available, featuring all necessary adjustments for the Conway ledger era. This marks the first node version capable of on-chain decision making on Cardano’s mainnet.”
For SPOs (Stake Pool Operators), it’s time for an upgrade! The release of Node 9.0.0 is here, incorporating all necessary adjustments for the Conway era in the Cardano mainnet. Essentially, this marks the first node contender to introduce on-chain decision making to the Cardano network.

The release of Cardano node version 9.0 signified a major achievement for the Cardano blockchain as it symbolized the finishing touches on the main development tasks for the foundational stage of on-chain governance. A few more adjustments are needed to incorporate the Cardano constitution components.
As a researcher studying Cardano, I’m thrilled about the arrival of Cardano node v9.0. This new version brings long-awaited enhancements, including the integration of Plutus v1 reference scripts and script signatures through CIP-69. These features are essential for realizing the decentralized governance vision outlined in CIP-1694.
Major upgrade alert issued
The Chang update significantly affects the entire Cardano community, primarily targeting stake pool operators (SPOs), exchanges, and decentralized applications. In order to implement this update, it’s essential that 70% of SPOs have been upgraded and 85% exchange liquidity is present on the Chang mainnet candidate. Consequently, it’s crucial for SPOs, exchanges, and dApps to upgrade their Cardano node versions accordingly.
According to a recent post on Intersect’s blog, stake pool operators (SPOs) and cryptocurrency exchanges must update their nodes to the most current version 9.0 of the mainnet, which supports hard forks.
Transactions and operations on Cardano depend heavily on exchanges for maintaining its liquidity and stability. These exchanges need to ensure their platforms are compatible with the latest node version in order to smoothly facilitite trading and other activities post-update.
As a researcher investigating decentralized applications (dApps), it’s crucial for me to ensure they are compatible with the latest node release. Modifications may differ from one dApp to another, but significant updates in Plutus v3 could introduce breaking changes that necessitate extensive testing on my part.
As a researcher studying the Chang upgrade process, I would describe it as follows: The timeline for the Chang upgrade will depend on the community’s preparedness. The hard fork, however, will only occur once the community has met the necessary readiness levels set by SPOs and exchanges.
