🤑💰 The Devil’s in the Details: CBDC Saga Continues 🤑💰
As I sat in my dimly lit Moscow apartment, sipping on a cup of bitter coffee, I stumbled upon the news that Andrew Bailey, the new governor of the Bank of England, had finally broken his silence on the central bank digital currency (CBDC) conundrum. 🤔
It appears that Bailey is still toying with the idea of creating a CBDC, much like a cat plays with a ball of yarn. 🐈 He’s also been beating the drum for high regulatory standards for stablecoins, because, you know, stability is overrated. 😒
I couldn’t help but think of former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, who was once the poster child for the CBDC project. He launched a top-level task force focused on the digital pound initiative, and I’m sure it was a thrilling experience for all involved. 🎉
Fast forward to October 2023, and the digital pound initiative had received a whopping 50,000 responses. I’m sure it was a real nail-biter, with concerns about privacy being at the forefront of everyone’s minds. 🤐
But wait, there’s more! UK lawmakers decided to get in on the action and called for lowering the holding limits for a digital pound. Because, you know, who needs freedom, anyway? 🙅♂️
Last month, it was reported that the Bank of England was setting up a “Digital Pound Lab” – a sandbox for experimenting with potential use cases within a simulated environment. I’m sure it’s just a matter of time before they create a digital reality that’s indistinguishable from the real thing. 🤖
As of now, the digital pound remains in a “design phase,” and the current government seems about as enthusiastic as a sedated sloth. 🐻 The Bank of England claims that the final decision on whether or not to issue a digital currency is still years away. 🕰️
And so, the saga continues. Will the digital pound ever see the light of day? Only time (and a healthy dose of bureaucratic red tape) will tell. 🤷♂️
