So, Coinbase is at it again, trying to flood the DeFi world with a new stablecoin fund. 🙄 Aiming to boost adoption, deepen markets, and accelerate onchain growth. Because, you know, the crypto world totally needs more volatility.
Coinbase’s Latest Financial Shenanigans: Stablecoin Fund Reloaded
Coinbase (Nasdaq: COIN) decided to announce on Aug. 12, 2025, that they’re launching a second Stablecoin Bootstrap Fund. Managed by Coinbase Asset Management (CBAM), it’s supposed to increase stablecoin liquidity in DeFi capital markets. 🤑 Starting with Aave, Morpho, Kamino, and Jupiter, because why not throw money at everything?
Our goal is to ensure deeper liquidity for stablecoins across the onchain ecosystem, enabling users to access reliable rates across mature and emerging protocols.
Translation: We want everyone to use our stuff. Period.
Coinbase also hinted at collaborating with early-stage teams to embed liquidity support from the get-go. Because nothing says “trust us” like jumping into bed with startups. 😏
The original Stablecoin Bootstrap Fund, launched in 2019 after Coinbase helped create USD Coin (USDC), supported liquidity on platforms like Uniswap, Compound, and dYdX. That early boost helped USDC grow into the DeFi darling it is today, with $8.9 billion in total value locked and $2.7 trillion in annual onchain transaction volume. 🚀
Now, USDC operates on multiple blockchains-Ethereum, Base, Solana, Hyperliquid, Sui, and Aptos. Coinbase sees these as critical to its mission of advancing onchain finance infrastructure and adoption. Translation: More chains, more problems. 🤦♂️
Coinbase plans to scale this relaunch over time, expanding coverage to more protocols and stablecoins. Some analysts worry this could increase systemic risk, while others see it as a way to enhance protocol stability, stimulate market growth, and improve capital efficiency. Either way, Coinbase’s vision is clear: the future of finance will be onchain, and they’re shoving us there whether we like it or not. 🤑
