Crypto Bills Get Second Chance

Well, shucks, folks! It seems the US House of Representatives has decided to give those three Republican-led crypto bills another whirl. And by “another whirl,” I mean they’re actually going to consider ’em this time around 🀠.

On Wednesday, lawmakers voted 215-211 in favor of a resolution to reconsider the package, which includes bills to regulate payment stablecoins, establish crypto market structure, and restrict the development of a US central bank digital currency (CBDC). That’s right, folks, they’re talking about the future of money, and it’s about as clear as mud 🌟.

Now, this passage could lead to amendments to the bills and votes on the legislation itself soon. And by “soon,” I mean before Congress breaks for an August recess, because, you know, they need a vacation πŸ–οΈ. Republicans are hoping to pass these bills before then, but it’s going to be a tough row to hoe, if you know what I mean.

But here’s the thing, folks: not everyone’s on board with these bills. Five Republicans didn’t vote in favor of reconsidering the resolution, and thirteen House Republicans caused the vote to fail on Tuesday. And why, you ask? Well, it seems some of ’em were concerned about the lack of CBDC provisions in the stablecoin bill, also known as the GENIUS Act πŸ€“.

And then there are the Democrats, who are still pushing against all three bills without specific amendments to address what they say are Trump’s conflicts of interest πŸ€‘. Now, Republicans hold a slim majority in the chamber, but they might need some Democratic support to pass the legislation. And that’s about as likely as a cat and dog becoming best friends πŸˆπŸ•.

Stay tuned, folks, this is a developing story, and we’ll be adding more information as it becomes available πŸ“°.
